My frustration is that it is a distraction - just like the need to pick a song for everyone to sing between the 3rd and 4th quarters. It's not that they are bad. They don't cost anything. They don't do any harm. But they don't solve the real, deep and abiding problems EVERYONE knows exist in Laramie. It's like throwing a drowning man a beer - good thought normally, just not the best thing to do at the moment. UW chronically misses its moment. It wastes energy and focus. Normally, I'd say we should trust our leaders to walk and chew gum at the same time. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the luxury of assuming that with our athletic department and University based on their torrid histories of being tone deaf and wildly inept.
Perfume on a pig to me. We aren't naive. We aren't dumb. We are apathetic - so trying to find something to make us excited again is a good thought. Unfortunately, a song and an ugly trophy don't work anymore. We've seen rifles and piano sing alongs not do a damned thing to make us competitive in even a BS, two-bit league. Do something real. Show us. Then dally in the absurd. We would all be a little more understanding and excited about the trophy if we had hope that we could actually win the damned thing. TB and Sawful can't. We all know it. Fix what needs fixing.
