Barnett & Smith are my number 1 choices...

And not just for the flury of press coverage and attention that my beloved university will get. They are both proven winners, both know the rm area and the conference, can recruit well, are motivators not just coaches, and will definitly assemble a staff that creates a solid "pipeline" for the future.

I don't like the Barnett idea. He has too much baggage, even if he really has learned his lesson, the way he acted at CU was rehensabile and shouldn't be rewarded. Just my two cents. I would rather get an up and coming coach than one with a negative rap.

I don't know...an up & coming coach that can win right away would be ok with me...but to wait 3, 4, 5, or 6 more years to compete for MWC championships because UW took the cheap & unexperienced route would probably be the death of me. I think also, specifically in Barnetts situation, Boulder turned on him and sold him out (to an extent). Imagine if Mike Price or George O'Leary were at CU when they did thier doo...both wouldn't be coaching right now!

I like Barnett also. He performed a miracle at Northwestern before coming to CU. Neuheusal recruits a female kicker for publicity and Barnett gets stuck with her. Well, Barnett said a few things he shouldn't have but he was stuck with a situation that no college football coach should have to deal with. I'm absoutely convinced he would turn this situation around real fast.

Amen. My thoughts exactly.

Barnett's career winning percentage is barely above .500 even with his sex & alcohol recruiting methods. Not impressive to me. He is well known, but I don't see him being some sort of miracle man. After 4 yrs at Northwestern he did win 2 conf championships, but they went back to losing and were 0-8 in conference games his final yr there before he went to CU. He didn't produce a consistent winning program at Northwestern even after winning the conf. Over his career, I think he has actually had more losing seasons than winning seasons.
