B Smith draft potential

Number 5 -- WOW! That seems fairly unrealistic...but if he is projected to go anywhere near that, he probably should go for it. I would love to see him end up with the Broncos as I am not sold on Osweiler and Brett Smith is going to need a few years to learn.

...and no, I didn't see any person on this website blame the BSU and USU losses on Brett Smith

Okay Potato Creek. Ignore the post that someone said "In Beavs defense I remember people saying that too".
If you don't believe me, then go ahead and look it up. It isn't my job to go out of my way to prove something on a message board. I'm not going to go digging up old threads to satisfy you. Deal with it.

4th round up, is what I predict, HE WILL be with Pokes next year, there's no way he'll go in the top 3 rounds, imo, but stranger things can and may happen, but he needs to be here for his senior year

I have to agree with this. I think the VERY best he could hope for is late 3rd round. And the NFL.com draft predictions back me up, they have Brett as the #9 QB in next years draft and predicted for 3rd round. I realize this is just a prediction, but I'll take that with less salt than some blog. Now if he can put in a solid year with strong stats in a pro style offense such as Bohl's, I think that will help his draft status.

Beav, that wasn't what someone said!

What they said (kdwrightuwyo): "In Beav's defense, there were a few folks on here (I don't remember who) who did try to say that Smith played shitty and stuff like that. There were certainly games where the blame could be distributed amongst many on the team, including #16."

Okay okay, no one has ever said anything bad about Brett, and he is a for sure lock-in for #5 overall right?

Bull. People have been extremely harsh on Brett, and that was my point.
Go ahead and argue semantics all you want, but there were people on this board saying he will be lucky to go in the 7th round and seriously bashing him after some games. All I am saying is that those NFL scouts and NFL QBs know a hell of a lot more about Bretts stock than anyone on here.
Meanwhile, now the seasons over and he is considering leaving people are acting like they have never said a bad thing about him.
But wait, if he does leave early, watch half of Wyonation turn on him and say shit like "he wasn't cowboy tough" and "good his performance at the end of his career here was shitty".
Same old song and dance with wyonation members when someone comes here and leaves.
"He is so great we love him!"
Then "Screw him he wasn't Cowboy Tough! I don't care about him at all".

The transition from college ball to pro does not always go as hoped. Ask Case Keenum how that is working out for him. Seven games, ZERO wins. Maybe Brett can make it happen, and if it does, great for him.

I for one have been saying all along that he won't get drafted high. That wasn't a slam to Brett as he is a great player. I just don't think that he would go higher than Round 3-4 based on where he plays and the team around him. If he played at a BCS school he could have had the exact same season and would go in the Top 2 rounds IMO, because he would get more press. In all honesty, if he declared, I don't think he would crack the Top 5 rounds, but I wouldn't be shocked with the 3-4 I suggested earlier.

Kinda like Tim Tebow, and Kellen Moore.

Wherever he goes on the next level...whether this draft of next.

Best believe I'll be rocking that nike elite jersey.

^^ No doubt about it.

As for the conversation in this thread a lot of people said Smith isn't a NFL ready QB I say he is and I wouldn't be surprised to see him declare early but I think it's a bad move on his part because of how many QB's are in this draft.

I heard there isn't a lot of talent coming out of the draft for QBs though. So he may end up getting drafted higher, relative to other QBs in this draft.

But I really think he would kill it in a pro-style next season in Laramie. Then, he would REALLY be ready.

I'm hoping everyone is wrong and he stays.

We'll wait and see. If he does come out, I do agree there just isn't a lot of talent at the QB position. The NFL is definately a QB's league now. Might be time for him to cash it in...

If I was Brett, I could see why he would want to leave right now, but I can also see a lot of upside in staying. All it takes is some trust in the coaching staff. If he trusts in Bohl and the new system, good things will happen for Brett.
He is too good not to succeed.

agreed wholeheartedly, Brett we need you and you'll be just fine this year, please heed our needs and desires to see you have the best year ever, and go down as the best to ever wear Brown and Gold

Nature of the fanatic I guess. Stay or go, I was glad to have him be a Cowboy. I wish he would have had a better coach / system this past season...

If Brett does leave though, we will be fine with Thompson. He was never a spread option QB.
He is bigger, stronger, and faster than Brett.
Brett is the fucking man though.
If Thompson does start next season because Brett is in the NFL, then Thompson will have 3 years of starting, as many as Brett had.
Thompson could end up being the new #1 Wyo QB of all time with 3 years of starting.

I am not going to argue with you when you are right, and Brett is THE MAN! I would hate to see Brett go, because I have sincerely enjoyed seeing him play all of these years, but if he can go high in the draft and make millions, then why not.

There are not enough superlatives I can say about Brett Smith, pure and simple. He is probably the toughest competitor that I have ever seen at QB for Wyoming and I have been a Wyoming fan for well over 30 years! I know that Brett has played hurt at certain times and I have no doubt that at certain times knowing Brett what little that I do that he is probably his own worst critic and is harder on himself than anyone else. I don't worry about the few idiotic fans who don't have a clue and voice their opinion that the loss went on his back. I have never heard or read anyone that put all of the blame on Brett that is for sure. One thing else, the VAST MAJORITY of Wyoming fans love and appreciate Brett Smith so that is why I don't think that it is fair to paint the majority of Wyoming fans with a brush that should cover several at most.

I will always be a huge Brett Smith fan!

As far as Thompson is concerned I agree that he has a lot of talent. I would imagine with the right kind of coaching that Thompson can be an outstanding QB for Wyoming as well. Brett had to run for his life way too often at Wyoming and with a good offensive line in front of him Brett is even more dangerous and hopefully Thompson will be as well. The offense that Christensen had Wyoming run this year, despite it being one that could put up points at certain times created almost more problems than it solved. The play calling was really poor....I guess it was the philosophy that if you run the same play 20+ times a game that you are bound to be lucky eventually and score, but it caused way too many 3 and outs and was on the field for such a short period of time that it basically blew up the defense.

I am excited to see what happens with Wyoming next season under Coach Bohl and I would also love to see Brett Smith directing the offense, but if he choses not to and enters the draft I will still be a huge fan of his no matter where he goes. Brett Smith is a Cowboy and will always be a Cowboy.

Only problem with Thompson, and he may have fixed this, is that he just rockets the ball, even on quick passes, he puts enough heat on it that it could go another 20 yards before losing force. Otherwise, yeah, he is a very promising looking QB.

And I'm still waiting to here confirmation whether Smith is declaring or not.

Option 1: Brett stays, has to re-learn an entirely new system and probably won't put up the crazy numbers he has the past couples years (sporadically) BUT still be plenty good enough for a draft barring any injuries.

Option 2: Brett goes, makes money doing what he loves and we are proud of him. Thompson starts fresh along with Bohl & company, making the transition (in my eyes) a little smoother.

I don't really see a bad option.

This happens to big schools all of the time. How would it be like to be a KU, Duke or UK basketball fan. Players coming to your college to check a box only. In this case with Brett, I support him in whatever he decides to do. I obviously love watching him play, but he is a smart kid with smart parents and he will make the right decision. If he gets drafted, I will support him in it.

But, my selfishness is hoping he stays. :D
