Aztec fans thoughts on Wyoming,

This was interesting and made me think of the chatter in the Salt Lake Tribune after the unnamed teams between Laramie and Las Vegas departed. http://www.aztecmesa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=ats&thread=20069&post=322918

This is also a little interesting as an explanation for why SDSU teams lose to good Cowboys teams in Laramie: http://www.aztecmesa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=ats&thread=20069&post=323013

For some reason some nut thinks they are a 2nd rivalry game (as they crawl back to the Big West.) We were playing CSU while it was still the San Diego Normal School. That is a rivalry.

Pretty typical SDSU BS. I'll never forget a couple or three of their d-bag fans picking a fight with my wife at the tourney in Denver in 2006. They beat us by 5 I think, with a few questionable calls at the end of the game, and she was really upset and got a little mouthy. One of them used a few choice words to describe her, and told me I needed to take my "b*$&% home." Needless to say I got in his face and damn near jumped the rail, with a few of my buddies behind me. A few of his friends chose that opportunity to drag him away and prevent the ass-kicking that was coming. I didn't care much for Asstec fans before that, but I love nothing more than watching my Cowboys beat up on them now.

I just hope we keep this one close until the last few minutes, and play the same awesome defense we saw on Saturday. We do that, and I think we have a chance to win this one.

GO POKES!

Just the usual crap. But the comment about the Aztecs being our second rival is a head-scratcher. Oh, and the comment that Laramie is only 50 ft higher than the Academy! lol.

If any team is our 2nd rival, it's Air Force.

I would have thought New Mexico. I'm still chapped about McKay measuring the rims. Actually I've always liked NM except for that time Richie was there. But the Aztecs would be pretty far down on my list of teams I would consider bball rivals.

Well, football wise, Air Force would be 2nd (for continuing series anyways). But basketball wise, yeah UNM would be after the sheep, because we have been playing them since at least the old WAC days if not earlier.

Fromolwyoming, I would agree. And I would put UNLV above SDSU as well. I have a lot of memories of great games against the Rebs. I miss playing UTEP in basketball too.

I miss UTEP sometimes too.

Who all remembers that UNLV knocked Leckner, Dembo and Co. out of the NCAAs the year we made the Sweet Sixteen? It is taking a long, long time to make up for that one.

Remember it well. Remember the damn near half court shot UNLV made at the AA as time ran out to beat the Pokes in 2000? The AA went from insanely loud to "hear a pin drop" silent in 1 second. It was like a kick in the stomach.

Ugh, I was there. The worst I have ever felt walking out of a sporting event, I think. Made particularly bad because Dalron Johnson was one of the most loathsome opposing players I can ever remember. God I hated that guy.

The Aztec fan representation in cyberspace has become a cesspool of arrogance, ignorance, and rudeness lately, with a side order of bandwagon. The true, respectful fans still exist, but we are thoroughly outnumbered if you judge your average ESPN gameboard and MWCBoard as the norm. As far as AztecMesa is concerned, we have surprisingly few dbags there, but we do have homers that get a little overzealous with their "criticisms" of other teams. Knowledgeable Aztec fans would know that counter to our recent success in the last ten seasons or so, along with BYU which came to have our number, Wyoming has been toe to toe with us in the series with something like 5 season splits in the last 9 years...and you spotted us a declining Steve McClain and Heath Schroyer to boot. So it'd be foolish for any Aztec fan to underestimate Wyo.

Anyway, best of luck to the Pokes Tuesday night and through the rest of the season. It's good to see the restoration project of the proud hoops tradition in Laramie began earlier than expected.

Good to know there some good Aztec fans out there, and I hope for a good, competitve game with (hopefully) a Poke's win.

We have to remember that our very own Dave Walsh comes from down Aztec way.

I can't wait for tomorrow night.

Wait, so you're telling me Dave Walsh wasn't born calling Cowboy athletic events straight from his mothers womb?

Nope.
