Austin Woodward, Sheridan QB/LB

Has anyone seen or heard about this kid? Great QB and LB that has D1 talent. In my opinion, he is head and shoulders above Drew Martinez. Woodward has a great arm, very fast, and good size about 6' 2'' 210 lbs. I heard that Wyoming is not recruiting him. This baffles me as i have heard many other D1 schools are. I would hate to see him play in another school besides WYO

I have watched just about every kid in 4A this year and although I am not a Sheridan fan, that Woodward kid is by far the best football player in the state. He's got good size and speed and if they were to add another 25 or 30lbs on that kid, he would be a very dangerous linebacker! Martinez is ok I guess but Woodward is definetly a D1 player.

Couple questions (keep in mind i don't know the kid and this is the first time ive ever heard of him):

1. Does someone know for a fact UW is not recruiting him?
2. How fast does he run?
3. Is he set on playing quarterback, or open to playing linebacker?

Any of those could help explain the situation.

From that last post, uw wasn't talking to him. I do not know why. I watched him play Gillette and by FAR was the fastest kid on the field. Left kids behind all night long. I heard he knew that he would be playing linebacker in college. All I know is the kid did not come off the field and was still outrunning kids all night.

we didnt recruit the de from gillette until late last yr as well, give it time, if he is d1 material i bet he will get a uw offer. i watched him play football and basketball last year and he looked like an athletic kid with size, i dont remember him being blazing fast but bball was 8 months ago.

as of now I don't think he has an FBS offer.

I know Montana and Montana State have offered. CSU is rumored to be talking to him but no offer as of yet.

At least that is the rumor

IMO, Wyoming needs to be doing a lot more recruiting in-state.. take a chance on some of these kids, you never know when you're going to catch lightning in a bottle. Our roster looks awfully naked of Wyoming kids, I think that having a supply of them (not a ton, but a few) would help draw some interest to a wider fan base.

Vic Koenning tried that. He really recruited Wyo and we had more wyo kids on the team then we had had in a long time. The results weren't so good. I think at best Wyo High Schools produce 2 - 4 FBS recruits a year

If the kid is good enough he should get an offer if not you can't offer just to stir fan interest. Wyo struggles enough to compete with other MWC teams for recruits to take to many flyers on kids.

What do we have something like 12 Wyo guys on the roster. so a bit over 10%

I haven't counted recently. The wrestling team is hitting the state pretty hard, as they normally do.

I don't understand why there's this impression that UW turns it back on Wyoming recruits.

Name ONE football player (we're not getting into JC Carroll) that went on to have a successful D-I football career that was interested in UW and wasn't offered a scholarship by the Pokes.

Some kids went on to CSU and BYU, but the impression I got was that that's where they wanted to go from the get-go, not because they were ignored by UW.

If this Woodward kid can play, UW will go after him. Period.

I agree. There just are not very many legitimate FBS prospects in Wyoming High School Football. Its so hard to project a players ability to the FBS level against Wyoming high school competition.
Recruiting to the FBS level is a war, and you can't waste too much time trying to project a players ability from such a low level of competition to FBS when there are 100's of prospects competing at a level much closer to FBS

I don't think having an extra 4-5 Wyoming players on the UW roster would generate any new interest in Wyoming football. Has Prosinski generated a bunch of new interest from Buffalo? Did Wendling generate a bunch of interest from RS? I doubt it.

We need the best players possible, regardless of where they are from. I don't think any fan cares where the players are from as long as they win.
