Austin Fort

Do any of you remember what Brett Smith said on his twitter after the announcement that ACS was leaving? He said "that's why I am here! To lead this football team". Have any of you read what Austin Fort is saying? Sounds familiar to me. Am I saying AF will be as good as BSmith? No. But AF wants to be here. He grew up a cowboy fan. And with that attitude alone I believe he would have beat pussy Thompson out by game 1 anyway. Jason Thompson will have to sit out a year. And because of that I think there is a good chance he will never play college ball again. I am excited for the future of Cowboy Football.

Oh and one more thing...have any if you noticed what other players are saying about JT leaving? From what I have seen, Nothing. Nada. Zilch. There is no "good luck Jason" or "it was an honor to have JT as a teammate". We saw a lot if that about BSmith. That speaks volumes to me about how the other players felt about JT. DC and JT are cut from the same cloth. Good riddance.

I sure hope Fort turns into a Bramlett brother in time. That is one huge positive about Fort is that he wants to be here and is a Wyoming Cowboy through and through! He may be physically ready to play next season but just not sure the speed of the game or his development is ready to take the reigns as a true frosh. Might be in his best interest for us to get a JUCO kid and allow up to red-shirt and develop. But again can't deny his love/want to in being a Cowboy.

Lol the only player response I saw was a sarcastic jab by Sam Stratton stating he was passing up the NFL to come back his senior season. :D

Yeah, I agree that the speed of the game and all the other challenges that come with being a D1 FBS QB. I guess my point (and I think you got it) was his excitement to be here. I have faith in Coach Bohl. We will not be undefeated in 2014. But I have faith that he will build this program into something special. Did Brett Smith have a spring semester at WYO before he got his first start? I believe he did...that probably helped him immensely in preparation for his first game.

Dutchman, have you looked on twitter at all? It is full of well wishes from players to JT. Every player I have talked to said they don't blame him for leaving at all. They understand that by virtue of going to the PAC 12 it is a step up from Wyoming. Here is one example....

Chase Appleby ‏@ChaseAppleby 11h
So long to one of my Wyo brothers. Came in with him 2 1/2 years ago. Good luck at UTAH! @JThompson_425

It took Casey two years to have a solid season. His td- int ratio is proof of that. 9-20 his SO year was terrible. 24-18 his JR year wasn't great either. 23-9 his SR year was good. He was able to air it out for over 3,000 yards each of those three seasons which was another positive.
Corey was a joke! He always passed within the realm of 2,600 yards. And mid teens for Tds each year to mid to upper teens in INTs. I think his totals were 30 Tds to 34 INTs.

I hope Austin pans out for us but if he is going to be a viable option for us next year he needs to be in spring drills. Unless he graduates he will not be there which means we probably need to look elsewhere. Also, coming from Gillette he was a spread style QB WHEN he played. He missed some games this year fro a variety of reasons injuries, suspensions, and because they had another kid that was arguably just as good. I think Beaver posted a highlight film of him and not once did I see him under center...that is not a good fit for a pro style offense. Now having pointed out the obvious I will say that he has a nice frame (6'4" 210 LBS) and could probably be developed into a nice Pro Style QB. His throwing motion is somewhat unorthodox in that his short passes look more like a shot put. His long passes have a big wind up reminiscent of one Tim Tebow.

I tend to agree. Both of them had amazing arms and talent, but both were also lacking in decision making and could be very careless throwing the football. Despite not winning as many games as his brother, I feel that Casey could have actually been pretty good, but he was on an awful team with a pourous defense and little running game to back him up. I think he probably took a lot of risks because he needed to, nobody else was going to make any plays those years.

Corey on the other hand angers me. He had moments where he could do something good, and he helped us make our first bowl game in forever, but the guy was a turnover machine that I felt cost us a lot of games too. For a team game like football, I'm very reluctant to pit a loss on one player, but his 7 turnover performance vs TCU at home was one of the few exceptions I gave myself. And his senior season, when I'd presume he'd have matured and been at his best, was super frustrating and was like taking 20 steps backward after the momentum we had winning a bowl game.

I don't really want any more QBs at the school that remind me of either one of them.

I love the fact that a Wyoming kid wants to be a Cowboy, but I just can't see him being our answer, unless we go from pure heart, maybe he can be developed and such, but my more revered statement we hear alot is "it's a work in progress"...so be it

I hope he doesn't "Pan" out like the recent Wyoming kids. I hate to say it but we have had a string of soft recruits that have washed out. Look at the Wyoming roster right now...how many scholarshipped Wyoming kids do we have? Outside of Fort.....Zero. Now I know that Spencer Bruce stuck it out but typically the kids that come thinking they are something turn out to be too soft. The latest was the so called Stud from Natrona. Really a soft kid who was better than most of the high school talent in Wyoming. Now I am not saying that we don't have Wyoming kids on the roster....I believe there are 5 or 6, but they are all walk-ons who have a desire to play and they weren't recruited. Will any of them play? Who knows but until now they haven't quit like the so called one or two star recruits have. I know Bohl says he wants to recruit locally but I believe that is a political statement. We can't win if his concentration is in Wyoming or even Montana. That is fine in 1aa or D2 or even NAIA....Chadaron, Carroll, or even NDSU, but not so much in D1, even if it is the "lowly MWC"! :-)
