UW trio from Down Under
LARAMIE (AP) — Jade Kennedy went through it two years ago and Emma Langford took her turn last season.
Now Bec Campigli is the latest Australian to be introduced to the University of Wyoming women’s basketball program. She was one of 12 members of the Cowgirls at the UW Basketball Media Day Tuesday at the Arena-Auditorium.
“This is an intense day. All these people with microphones running around and putting it under you to see what you are going to say next,” Campigli, as she sat in the venue that is soon going to have much more fans than what she is used to playing in front of, said. “Back home, we struggle to get any fans to women’s basketball. It will definitely be something new, but I’m up for it.”
Kennedy is a junior forward from Cairns, Langford is a sophomore forward from Arthurton and Campigli is a point guard from Melbourne. All know exactly what to do when either of them gets to thinking about home.
“It’s good to have them around,” Campigli said. “Whenever we get homesick, we get together for a vegemite on toast. It is one of the things that attracted me to come here — I knew there were players here from Australia as well.
