Attendance

Is anyone else tired of wyoming not reaching their potential on attendance? From reading Vorel's tweets yesterday it sounded to me that DC is pleading that fans show up, and honestly he sounded frustrated. I think the quote was "we can have a great home field advantage, if the fans show up"

My question to you guys, besides winning. What are some other things UW could do to get more people in the seats? I don't think they promote enough, we are 4-2 (2-0) and play CSU at home there should 26,000 people there Saturday if not more, but I doubt that happens.

What do you think we get for attendance this weekend? I think last week was around 23K

I hope we get 28 k but I know we won't. 25 or 26 would be cool.
It's so obvious to me DC is frustrated with the fans that don't show up. We need fan support.

There's no reason we shouldn't be supporting them. I can't stand it. We have one football team in this state, you can't drive 4 hours from sheridan? Gillette? There's hardly any excuses when the weather is good. Before I was at UW I would drive 6 hours from billings.

I would agree...unfortunately.

I tried talking my wife into driving from SLC to Laramie this weekend, but when she found out it was in HD on ROOT....

If they keep on winning, the fans will come. The crowd last weekend wasn't terrible. And it would have helped if New Mexico had more than 10 people in their section. CSU might bring at least 20 fans. I'll predict 25K if the weather report stays the same.

We need busses of people! Talking 1 or 2 people into coming to the game doesn't do crap. We need 50 at a time!
Have the bus leave Evanston Friday afternoon loaded with booze, stop in GR and RS and fill it up. Get a bunch of people partying in Laramie Friday night, then ready to go Saturday! Same thing with Gillette and everywhere far away in the state.
Also, do game day busses from cheyenne Rawlins and Casper.

doon't have a bus...i have a focus

and i don't have 50 people....i have 1 wife

Keep winning and fans will show. That said, I would hope everyone in Laramie and from around the state would come for what is always the most important game of the year.

Two letters- TV.

Three other letters- LPD. One word- overzealous.

Agree on the TV, disagree on the LPD - more like UW. They requested additional officer support from Cheyenne and Casper. Then again, even with the Casper and Cheyenne PoPo around, if you act like an ass, expect to be treated as such.

I wish the game was blacked out within 150 miles (or so) of Laramie - Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie, FC, Denver, etc. That has to be a 2000 - 3000 swing in attendance.

The cops in Laramie are awful. They are really pushing the lines of entrapment on a weekly basis. I watched a cop sit in the parking lot of the Ranger motel, waiting for people to come out of the Ranger bar. As soon as people would come out, he would go pull them over. Unfotunatley, most college students don't know their rights. UWPD and LPD are making big money in DUIs and MIPs.

They were sure pushing for alcohol enforcement in the stands(students) on Saturday, almost to the point of making it unenjoyable in watching the game with them standing in the student section. Let people have fun and if they aren't being a total ass, stay where you belong, high or low not in the student section watching the game and people. Found it kinda unnerving. I've always said they need to black it out in the Cheyenne, Laramie region. We all know there will be those sheep asses trying their bravery by coming into the student section this weekend. Bring them on.
it's gonna be tough with alot of areas openning day of hunting today, but I think we'll be alright and possible close to 25-26k this weekend. I know i'll be there maybe with a car load.

I get where you are coming from, but I personally have NO compassion toward somebody that gets behind the wheel drunk. They should be stopped, and certainly if that is when they are leaving a bar, then so be it. Further, if there was a Reddi call involved, the LPD (and the Casper & Cheyenne DUI enforcement teams) have no choice but to follow, seek out, and arrest.

My problem with the cops at the games is their military style look on them.
They sit there and stare down everyone like the fans are terrorists, and the LPD are damn SEAL Team 6.

That and the fact they don't enforce to bust people, not make it a safer environment.
Perfect example?

A couple years ago a buddy and I were sitting in the student section, and there was a very drunk student in front of us who was falling down and then puked ALL over the place. Luckily his friends gathered him up and left the game immediately so he didn't get in trouble.
Unfortunately, a couple other kids came took their seats.
During this 1-2 minutes of activity, the cops saw the puker, then went to arrest him. But they arrested the new kids who sat there because they had also been drinking.
These kids had done nothing wrong yet still got in trouble because some other jackass made a big scene.

The issue with Wyoming attendance is twofold. One, people have to come from great distances to get to the game and second the televised schedule. If a person has to choose to drive 250 miles or sit in their recliner and watch it is a no brainer!

Not gonna lie. I'd come up every game if it wasn't for money. Between gas and tickets, it's more than we can currently swing while trying to get rid of debt. Spending money is pretty much at zero these days, even though that's likely to change in the near future.

(and yeah, big part of that is heading to Sweden over Christmas, but I haven't seen most of my family since 2008, so it was a bit overdue)

I totally agree there is no excuse to drive drunk and I am all for arresting those people. I just think their methods on all law enforcement are over the top and borderline illegal. As another poster said, they should be looking to create a safe environment not just try to screw people that are just walking downtown drunk

$40 bucks will go along ways. You can go have 10 drinks at the bar and watch it on tv instead of spending that $40 on tickets.

The cops used to be pretty friendly around Laramie. As long as you weren't driving, being a total ass, etc, they would leave you alone. Now that Laramie has doubled the size of its police force, you don't see that anymore.

Parking is brutal. Sometimes you get towed when its not a clear tow-away zone. I hear about those stories all of the time.

I'll put it this way - you have to really want to go to a game to go to a game. Its going to cost you time, money, and some frustration.

UW/Laramie really needs to find a way to add value to the games. People are traveling, running into old friends, wanting to have some fun, catch a good game. They need to get some activities before and after the games - plus some safe transportation so people don't have to deal with parking.

Local businesses should get together and try to get some events going. BBQ's, raffles, charity events, and all that stuff tied around games.

That said, I haven't missed a home game since 2007.

Agree.

Sometimes, I wonder (specifically with the UWPD). They seem to always have a huge chip on their shoulder.
