$40 is a more than fair price for an adult ticket.

IMO, there should be sections in every game where tickets for kids under 18 are $5 at most. The "knot hole" tickets were how I was able to attend games in middle school and high school and helped build my passion for the Pokes. My parents weren't football fans and so I (like many other kids) had to pay my own way.

40 is a fine price. I'm not sure how elastic the prices of football tickets are. With how far people have to come to watch the game the difference between 40 dollars and 20 dollars for a ticket isn't the make or break expense of the trip for most people. You could get some more locals but still the people that want to come are going to come for the most part. Not sure how many more people would come with 20 dollar tickets but it isn't a question of 10,000 vesrsus 20,000. I would guess it would be 20,000 at $40(I think we will have plenty over 20K for opening game) versus 23,000-24,000 at $20.
