At CSewe

I would love to think the same way, but with NIL and the portal, I am not sure a few recruiting classes will make much difference, if you can't pay to play. Sad state of affairs, but it is reality.
Sunny being able to get in front of transfers at the beginning of the cycle is going to have a BIG impact on what kind of players end up in Laramie. That's not to say they won't leave later, but he'll be able to attract some talent.

I like your enthusiasm and hope you are right.

But I'm not convinced most players would come play for Jesus Christ himself if they were being offered more money to go play somewhere else.

I like Sunny. I think he is a great coach and mentor. The issue, as RealUW points out, is the Jimmy's and Joe's. Any word on Wicks' recruiting prowess? Ability to navigate the portal? This year is a terrible barometer for what talent we can find and secure - at least I hope - considering the dumpster fire Napoleon lit on his way out. But I honestly have no gauge on where we stand on future talent acqusition.

This is the million dollar question. Sunny is looking for unselfish, tough players. There's still the requirement of talent, though. There's no one tougher or more unselfish on this team than Cort Roberson, but a team full of Cort's isn't going to win many games.

I personally think that a guy like Sunny is going to be able to sell the program to some high level players in the portal that maybe aren't getting the looks from schools that will give them 5 figure paychecks. He's also been in the final running for a 4* player that ultimately chose another school, but it's damn hard to even be mentioned in the top 3 of a player of that caliber.

So far we've got 3 players signed:
Gavin Gores - 6'8" 210 lb. F - offers from Illinois, North Dakota State, South Dakota State
Neil Summers - 6'9" 240 lb. F - local kid with other D1 offers
Nez Meyer - 6'7" 185 lb. G - offers from George Mason, Marquette, Xavier

If you're getting recruits to choose you over Brad Underwood, Sean Miller, and Shaka Smart you're doing something right.

To expand on this, I was looking back through past recruiting classes. Any player with a high major offer under Linder never gave Wyoming a second look, including in-state players like Lawson Lovering. Wicks, on the other hand, is landing players that hold offers from those schools.

Awesome, informed responses. Thank you. I honestly don't have much daylight to see into recruiting and Sunny's ability to navigate the portal in MBB. I remain hopeful. Sunny is high energy and clearly scouting well (perhaps with the exception of CSU) as we are quasi-drubbing teams through halftime and close late in a lot of games we really have no business being in with the talent gap we suffer. I don't know how to read the collapses in the second half - maybe we aren't adjusting or maybe we just don't have the horses? Time will tell - it always does.

I will say that Green Bay's drop off this year - with Gottlieb getting worked - serves as a decent indicator that Sunny is likely a heck of a get for WYO. Lebron toasting Dougie won't help them going forward either.
