ASU - Ten WTF Thoughts

I read through the board yesterday, and decided to continue to "wait 2" until posting anything about a loss. I have some thoughts and questions, that I didn't see much of (or any) when reading around yesterday.

1. Where was the team? It looked like we traveled maybe 50 players. Cutting costs?
2. ASU student section - what is that about? "Fuck Wyoming" all game? I get it if a rivalry...
3. Why not Kaden Anderson & Sam Scott to start the 2nd? Evan & DJ were uninspired, confused, and lost.
4. WTF happened to Cowboy Tough? We were anything but that. We were as soft as I have seen.
5. Did somebody drug the team with Valium? Flat, tired, and slow isn't any way to play the game.
6. The team conditioning looks like it may be a thing of the past.
7. Depth issues are apparent. Especially at tight end, running back, and both lines.
8. Worst opening day loss since 1893 or something? How proud is the AD? Polasek anyone?
9. Passion. Where was the passion. One Wyoming? Idaho could likely piss pound us.
10. And lastly, in the "bitch just to bitch" department. Our uniforms suck. Brown pants are awful.

I noticed many players looked heavier and slower. Even Svoboda looked like molasses. He moved much better last year.
Svoboda seems strong and can withstand an arm tackle attempt, but he's not fast. Even is delivery seems slow. I don't know how to describe this but from the moment he decides to throw the ball to the moment that the ball is released seems long.

The offensive game plan was not good. The first INT was basically "lets give Evan an easy one option pass play to get his confidence up" . He telegraphed what the play was and never looked to see if the receiver was covered or if they were dropping the LB into the flat to cover the short swing pass. That was simply bad coaching.

That was mind boggling. As the saying goes, playing QB isn't a skills contest.

I'm pulling for the kid and hope it was just first game jitters. However, football is littered with big arm guys that couldn't make reads or had accuracy issues. I'm hoping that he's not to much of a project (if he can even get there) but it was painfully obvious the game was way too fast/complicated for him.

I was optimistic to see a O that could move the ball. Ugh

I was most disappointed with the D. Experienced group, depth, no changes to the scheme. They regressed badly from the last few years. I don’t get this failure.

1. Always has bothered me that we don't travel our Cheerleaders or Band to big out of conference games. It gives the perception of a low budget program. Not sure why the team brought such few players.
2. ASU has the highest rate of STD's per student of any college in the nation. Enough said.
3. At that point we needed to find out of Svoboda can be an inspired leader. I think we have our answer
4. Football culture has drastically changed. Players don't respond to tough coaching. It's why Bohl was losing the team and was time to retire. The players love Sawvel for this reason alone.
5. This the result of low tier talent not being coached up. Bohl was able to get the most out of players who would be buried on the depth chart in most D1 programs. Bohls style helped close the talent gap.
6. See #5
7. Larger result of 5 & 6
8. Vic Koenning Vibes
9. Didn't see much leadership from the Players or Coaches.
10. White on White should and will always be the away look imo

The nonsense about STDs is just that, complete nonsense. First of all, it comes from an old article. Second, the article was attempted humor, and not based upon any facts. After being threatened with a lawsuit, the original publisher made the following statement: "This was our attempt at Satire/Humor. We acknowledge that this article regarding the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases at these five colleges was factually erroneous. It was not based on any scientifically valid data or analysis."

Sorry to hear that you got the kind that doesn’t go away.
