Are you a fan of "the spread"

Personally, I enjoy seeing a big TE come off the line and snag a TD, just like Miller did for the Steelers just now. Not sure what that means for the rest of the O. I don't know why we cant line up power under center at times when we need to. Love the play action on a goal line formation and hitting the TE.

Spread O-linemen are typically smaller, but more agile than O-linemen in a pro-set. Pro-set, you pound the ball up the middle a lot, sometimes more than you throw. It's also more about power than speed (though speed is always a good thing). Spread, you'll be throwing it a lot more, or running on the edges, meaning you don't need as much of a push up front on every down. The spread is designed for speed, with power being secondary outside of the linemen. And speed for recievers takes precedence over size, as it is supposed to have the WRs beat the coverage with speed and agility.

i like the spread when it's working beautifully like it was early against the Air Force Academy!!! but this year it's looked purdy sporadic

This is the spread-option. If it wasn't for Smith's stats last year, the offensive scheme since DC's tenure could have been accurately called the option-spread. Until last year we were attempting as many passes as most teams were completing.

I prefer the single back - spread/5-wide of the Erickson-Roach era. Instead of the skinny 5-9 slot receiver, there was a 6-4 240lb TE running the same pattern with better results. Add the advantage of using him as a 6th blocker.

It was a nice scheme when top 20 teams weren't running it.

While I like the spread, I would actually like to see the pokes move more towards a consistent pistol offense similar to oregon. I think with a guy like Brett at QB and some of the receivers we have and the young, quick RB's it could really be explosive. I think putting Brett by himself in the backfield sometimes puts TOO much pressure on him. A pistol might offer some different looks and some different plays to take advantage of the talent we have on offense

Hell yes I love the spread. When a girls legs spread open its a beautiful thing. Not what you meant? Well in that case I love to spread some jelly on a warm piece of toast. So good. Still not it? OH! You mean spread offense. Yea I like that as well. But my main question is football season still going? If so someone forgot to tell our boys...

Any offense looks great when it is executed correctly. Although certain types of offense take a different style of athletes. The spread may very well be our best option considering we don't get massive lineman. I loved watching Nebraska execute the option with such talented quarterbacks like Tommie Frazier through the 90's but I also enjoyed the fun n gun with Florida and Danny Wuerffel.

I can say for certain Wyo should never go back to a pro style offense. We need to find a gimmicky offense that can be a good fit for the type of athletes we recruit and the spread allows us to do that.

I for one think the Triple Shoot offense that Manny Matsakis brought in was the best thing I had ever seen out of the Cowboys offense. Too bad it was only for one year... I still hold the belief had Dimel, Matsakis, and Koenning stayed together as our coaching staff we would have been competing for conference titles on a regular basis.

Dimel did good at winning with Tillers recruits. The amazing thing is Tiller unlike Dimel and Glenn recruited during their last years of coaching at Wyo. Vic was hired on as HC and took a bare cupboard roster to a 1-10 season. I really think if Dimel stayed, we would have had just as bad of a season. He barely recruited in his second year and was looking for a way out of Wyo. His last year, no recruiting. Vic inherited a fresh QB (Bramlet), Fresh RB's (Scott,Armah) and several Fresh WR's (Floyd, McGuffey, Ralph) D was no better. Hence our shitty season. Vic struggled with wins, but continually made strides with recruiting. That is why in his last year even though we had a 2-10 record, we were losing by a Very close margin. Vic recruited his last year and Glenn inherited all of the Vic's grown seniors (those mentioned above) and had better success, plus he had a better recuiting class. The cupboard wasn't bare. Notice the lack of recruiting is what killed Dimel at Houston. All the successful players we had under Dimel were Tiller recruits. Stoner, Brigham, Wendall Montgomery, Kofi Shuck. I'm pretty sure Chuckwurah was even a Tiller recruit after the 96 season.

I could use the same argument for his tenure at Houston. Art Briles took over with Dimels recruits and had great success. It is well known that Dimel can recruit. He had ranked recruiting classes at Houston. I can't argue that he wasn't looking for a way out of Wyoming and probably didn't recruit as well as he could have.

The point I'm making is that if Dimel, Mitsakas, and Koenning had stayed together I think Wyoming would have been just fine after Tillers departure. As it stands today, it's like we haven't been able to recover since.
