Are O-linemen made or recruited

Was debating this with a friend the other day. Friend claims that teams with good lines (BSU, SDSU, etc.) really aren't recruiting better players but are developing. I think they are better at identifying intangibles that make good linemen in their system as well as recruiting better players. Neither one of us looked up the data so we were just pulling stuff out our behinds

What do you think? made or recruited? (I'm sure this came up before, but it is the off-season and not a lot to talk about anyway).

Not a lineman, but it seem like the good linemen all have quick feet. I think that is a trait that can't be developed. Or, maybe it can.

I think it is a combination of athleticism and development.

Frame...feet..attitude.

Obviously frame is recruited......feet can be developed to a point with a good base to start with. A guy that can put on a lot of weight and still move.

Attitude......mostly recruited but can be taught on a certain level.

I would argue the difference is the top teams get guys that are pretty much ready to play as the rest must develop the size/strength. You could state that it is the best position to develop since you need more bodies (5 on the field at a time) and with tech and off the field work...one with less raw athletic ability can succeed.

OBVIOUSLY IF YOU START OUT WITH AN ADVANCED KID IN THESE CATEGORIES.....THE DEVELOPMENT WILL JUST MAKE THEM EVEN BETTER. :twocents:
