Appears the rumor was true Mr. Titleist! Ben Durbin...

Don't see to many players leave the senior year but let him go backs to "gods country" Iowa

At least we have some depth at d-end. Hope Yarbrough gets hungry for some playing time. Also Durbin did graduate so his leaving doesn't hurt us in that regard. He wants to play in front of family and friends, can't really blame him, also had nothing but positive things to say about the program and Laramie, let him go.

What is with these guys? First Doctson, now Durbin? Dudes, if you couldn't cut it at Wyoming, you certainly won't tear it up at TCU and Iowa State.

Durbin just graduated and has played for the Cowboys for 4 years. He has a year of eligiblity left and decided to go home and play at ISU. I'd say he "cut it" at Wyoming just fine. He was named starter at DE after spring drills, which makes this a weird situation. Apparently he wanted to play for his home state team bad enough to give up a potential starting gig. He wasn't an OUTSTANDING player, so don't know how he'll do at ISU.

Jury is still out on Dotson, but he was pretty outstanding his freshman (true) year.

Good thing for Wyoming, both these guys played in a position that we have good depth.

Can't blame the guy for wanting to play for his hometown team. I, for one, wish him the best and hope he does well in Iowa.

Hmmmm. You made me think a bit on this one. I guess it boils down to the old "agree to disagree" thing.

I see it as this: What is it with this instant gratification generation these days, not living up to their committment / word? Granted, there are always exceptions, I realize that.

In this example...Durbin is recruited by, and given, a full ride scholarship to the University of Wyoming. He accepts, attends school in Laramie, and earns his degree. During his 4 years here (one redshirt season included), he grows both mentally and physically...in fact, one could say that all his athletic attributes can be fully attributed to the University of Wyoming.

So, Ben, you recieved your degree, got stronger, bigger, smarter (I guess) etc., where is your loyalty? Where is the passion / school spirit? You bailed on Wyoming, instead of paying Wyoming back and playing your senior year. Put that shit on your resume, your future employer will appreciate the honesty.

Yeah. I agree mr t. Nothing like training a guy and see him walk afterwards. I'm sure employers will love that.

By your logic we should be pissed off at any player who graduates and doesn't come back to coach for Wyoming. Not only is it unrealistic to expect, but extremely selfish.

I am not following you on the coach thing. By my logic, if you give your word, and make a committment, see the mother fucker through. All the way. To the end. It happens everywhere, I realize, and of course, there are exceptions (Alvester).

Maybe I have too much Wyoming pride, and expect too much from people, for most folks these days.

I bleed brown & gold, man, but a lot of the kids that come to school here don't. For every Uso Olive who gets a Steamboat put on his mom's tombstone there's a Ben Durbin who wants nothing more than to play for the school he grew up rooting for. I'm sure that Ben is grateful to the University for everything they've done for him, but the one thing they couldn't do was be the school he learned to love growing up, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't feel like he broke any kind of commitment. He played hard, did well in class, and earned a degree from the University of Wyoming. That he has one more year of eligibility left is just a bonus for him to be able to fulfill a dream.

I don't blame the guy. I'm sure it was a tougher decision for him than you think. He knows his team here, grew up with them for four years. He has seem the ups and down. Now, he has the option to go where he always wanted too? I'm sure he thought about this long and hard.
Honestly, If I got recruited by Kansas St, and played with them for four years and earned my degree, but then had a chance to play my last year at Wyoming. Good bye KSU, Snyder, Purple and Silver. I'm going Brown And Gold.
It's just that we don't have that happen to Wyo. We are not the favorite sports program on everyones list.

LOL  The holier than thou baloney is hysterical. Ben Durben paid all his dues, played hard for the Brown & Gold and was a BIG contributor for four years. Best of luck, Ben, on both your football and academic pursuits. Your contributions have been appreciated and we wish you well.

maybe brett keisel will want to head back to college and play one year for his home state team

So do you hate Zack Bolger? He walked away from his scholarship at Jamestown College to walk-on at his home state college.

Who? Jamestown College is to the University of Wyoming as the University of Wyoming is to Iowa State...is that what you are saying? Did this Zack guy have any circumstances that would have potentially been different that Ben Durbin's?

Holier than thou? Eh...not even close. Overly proud and a huge lifetime supporter of the University of Wyoming? YES. Embarrassed by a generation of people that (largely...not all) don't keep a committment or see things through to the end? Absolutely. Anything that I can do about it? Nope, except share my OPINION on a sports message board.

How do you feel about liars?

This program has become no different than most other major programs, it's every man for himself. We have coaches that make offers to high school boys and then pull them, that lie to players on the team about playing time or position opportunity, that show favoritism and seperate rules for different players, etc. And we have fans that totally bitch out players (Chris Pro for example) that give it their all, on forums (this one included). I say good luck to Ben and all the other players that have left. Do I wish they stayed, of course. But they are doing what they've been taught on this team, and that's take care of yourself first. I expect a pretty good season this year, but I can only imagine what the 2009 class would be looking like as seniors, had not so many of them departed. Half the team could have been 4 year starters.

Who have we offered a scholarship only to pull it later? And who was promissed playing time, etc by the coaches? IMO, if a player is good enough, they will play. If they don't do what they need to do, then they might not. It is the coaches job to create an environment to be successful in, but it is the player who ultimately needs to get it done.

Fans bitch. If you think this forum is bad, you should listen to the Denver sports radio show I do. Not one player, even Peyton Manning, is free from fan complaints.

Now that Ben has left the program, I could give two shits about the kid. He chose his path and now we need to see who steps up to fill the hole left by Ben.

Lastly, of the 2009 class, there have been only 3 players who left because those chose to; ACS, AA, and Shameil. I'm not sure if they were "taught" to take care of themselves, but all certainly did what they thought was best for them. The others left because they couldn't cut it. AA is the only one I'd want on the team this year. Gary was good, but Nzeocha is going to be playing on Sundays. FYI, Durbin was in Joe Glenn's final class of 2008.
