Apparently we're 14.5 point favorites agaunst UNM.

Just saw that on the MWC board, and it'll fluctuate, but the real question is, does the defense step it up? UNM just blasted their in state rivals NMSU (seriously, SDSU struggled with them!?) and probably gained a lot of confidence from it, while Smith and company will have been stewing on the loss to Texas State for 2 weeks. Thoughts?

I think Vegas recognizes variation from the norm. New Mexico playing better then avg and Wyoming playing worse then in previous weeks. Both teams playing their avg game makes wyo 14 points better.

I expect Wyoming to come out with something to prove and will be clicking on all cylinders. I think we win by 24. 48 to 24.

Yeah, the Lobos are running that option well.....but they haven't looked good at all away from home. 14.5 sounds about right.....Wyoming got exposed ad embarrassed big time last week, they'll want to get that taste out of their mouth.

You know...that and the Lobos almost never play well in Laramie.

This game has me a little nervous. New Mexico hung 541 yards rushing on NMS....and New Mexico was averaging over 325 yards per game coming in. Wyoming's Achilles Heel is stopping the run (has been for quite a while), and this game comes down to doing exactly that. New Mexico State was ranked 125th in rush defense, Wyoming was ranked 116th. Wyoming has to stop the run. If they can't get New Mexico off the field, Smith has no chance to work his magic. I hope with two weeks to prepare that the Pokes come out focused and take care of business. This game should be a good barometer of what to expect the rest of the year. The Pokes could still have a good year and finish at or near the top in the conference, but if they lay an egg against New Mexico, they will be lucky to finish with 6 wins.

It seems to be a common mistake with, not only wyoming bloggers, but also with wyoming sport writers.

I don't see it a lot in general on the internet.

Another thing I see a lot with wyoming sports writers, or wanna be writers, is plural or synonym confusion. Classic example--"There are four new freshman coming in this year".

It's also in the copy of 307 magazine I just picked up

I agree that the weak Poke run defense will hurt them badly. The only answer is a top flight offensive performance. This is one game I think will be fairly high scoring. NM grinding it out and getting it in. Pokes striking quickly and getting it in. Just my take on the game -- Note: this information should not be used by the coaches to devise game plans.

When I'm trying to get it in, I usually start by striking quickly. But, usually end up grinding it out.

Cue wyokie response in 3.....2.....1....

Better figure out a way to stop the run if they want to beat UNM by 2+ scores. They're #1 in the nation in rushing.

They rushed for 500 yards against UNLV, 400 vs UTEP, 213 vs PITT, and 540 vs NMSU. PITT seems pretty good against the run too (FSU "only" managed 156 rushing against them), and UNM still had 4.1 YPC in that game - not exactly a bad result.

So... yeah. I guess the main positive is that they have little to no passing attack, and their defense is on par with Air Force's.

By the way, is Teriyon Gipson related to the former Wyoming Gipsons?

I believe he is either their youngest brother or cousin, can't remember which. Wyoming recruited him, but I can't remember what happened.

I know they had a cousin that played for the sheep a while back, but haven't heard anything on that in awhile.

I have seen New Mexico come in to the War and punch us in the mouth and hand it to us as well. We have to be on our A+ game and hand it to the Lobos , I'd take the 14.5 and hope like heck the bye and that Brett wants to show a MW team what we're really about, I can't wait we're needing a big time win!!!!
Still a bit frustrated with that Texas St, letdown!!!!!

He is the youngest brother. We did not offer. Older brothers were none to happy and I can understand why.
