Anyone see DC on the Rockies game?

I didn't catch the game today, but wanted to see coach DC on the broadcast.
Anyone see what he talked about? A link to it?

Yep, I saw it. DC said he was headed down to Las Vegas for Media Days and then he was anxious to get Fall Camp started. He said he was excited with what he saw in Spring Camp. They talked to him for about 1 inning and then both Drew Goodman and George Frasier talked about how they liked coming to Laramie to broadcast Cowboy Basketball games this last season and showed a Root Sports schedule of all the games they would be broadcasting this football season. Real good publicity for UW.

Didn't he also mention the number of redshirts he'll have this year?

Yep, I wasn't taking notes but I think I heard 18 mentioned.

I thought it was 18 kids who red shirted last season and will be playing this season?

mmmmkaaay....

redshirts are like welfare tickets, we use um if we absolutely can gain something out of them.

however

this past season, we could have pulled some redshirts where we wouldn't have in the past. meaning that coach c saw an opportunity where, no matter the end record, we could establish a future presence by holding true to the redshirt.

connor rains, walker madden, uso olive, sam hardy, nico brown, trent sewell, tim kamana.... these names will be big in two years.

connor and walker will be big this year, as will uso, but sam, nico, trent, and tim will headline our production for quiet some time.

Sam Awrabi was a higher rated player than any of those guys coming out of high school. Hoping to see what he's capable of this fall.

yes, I agree. however, his dimensions where not where we would want a redshirt too be. I want him to find success.... he just hasn't given us much access to his development as the other players I listed.

I was excited when we signed him, but haven't seen any movement since. I hope he has some unrien in him.

ok. j-rod caught me again. sewell, kamana, and hardy have not shown me anything either.

I get your point. and you are correct. all im saying is that some of the redshirts are documented and sealed as a good purchase.

Uso is the biggest offseason redshirt, unless madden and connor can keep the sacks below 15 for the season.

Sewell got some honor for academic achievement.....can't remember what. That shows commitment. I think Trent is going to surprise a lot of folks. He think he can be for Wyoming what Matt Miller is for Boise. Not a speedster, not a deep threat....but a guy with sure-hands and a physical presence.

But you are right, its hard to know what we'll get out of any of them. I expect big things from Olive.....but at the end of the day we have to keep perspective that they are just Freshman. Its been awhile (Brett Smith) and way before that where we saw a RS Freshman and thought " wow....this guy is going to be special". When I think Wyoming special, I'm thinking Brett Smith, Jovon Bouknight, Marcus Harris, Ryan Yarborough, etc. There will be players who emerge this fall, but patience will be needed with them too.

DC needs to be recruiting the same type of O-Linemen he was when he was at Mizzou. These new guys might fit that mold, but he needs to sell it to them that starting 4 years at Wyo with some great QBs is going to be more beneficial than waiting 2-3 years at Mizzou to play against the SEC. But like we saw with Taven Bryan from Casper it is easier said than done.
Hard sell I know, but if he can get an O-Line that is anything like he had at Mizzou, with the QBs and WRs Wyo has now, the offense would be putting up Oregon Duck numbers. Maybe not as good as the Yucks but against MWC defenses that aren't quite as good as Pac12 defenses, the Pokes would be scoring just as much.
Then obviously if the O-Line was stellar, the RBs would have holes to run through and would be putting up a lot better numbers.

I played basketball against Sam Hardy in the spring. He was completely out of shape and more of a fat guy than a physically impressive guy. He's huge but he didn't seem to have the work ethic to be anything special. This is based off of one day though so hopefully I am completely wrong.
