Anyone clearly remember what BYU did to MWC when

they pulled out for greener pastures?

I don't remember the details, just that it had something to do with Utah State joining and was a pretty low blow for a morally astute institution.

They tried to the pull the rug out from underneath the Front Range schools and what not by trying to get some of the MWC schools to join the WAC, while also trying to keep Reno and Fresno from leaving it.

This. Codename "the project". Yep, they even had a codename.

Their little minion, usu, was the driving force on the wac side. They tried to work with byu and get a 5 mill buyout for the remainder of the wac. Hair sniffed it out and invited the 3 biggest dogs at the time, FSU, Nevada, and usu. usu tried to get the wac to hold firm, but FSU and NV accepted immediately. usu president was gleefully boasting about BSU's president's world crumbling around him because Utah and byu were leaving and MWC was extremely unstable. Once FSU and NV left, the wac crumbled. usu had to come in like a whipped puppy and byu was left with west coast conference + Indy.

Only thing Hair could have done better is take FSU and NV only.

usu is as much to blame as byu except they weren't in the MWC at the time.

Haha, so they did what they viewed was best FOR THEM. Shocker. Theyre probably the only school in the world to try that. Oh wait Boise did too.... SDSU did too...

No. BYU actively tried to destroy the MWC as they left. Utes, TCU, and SDSU never attempted that.

There's a difference between leaving your workplace for a better opportunity and leaving it and also setting the building on fire with all your former co-workers in it. Utes, TCU, SDSU all did or attempted to do the former. BYU did the latter and should forever be anathema for it.

The end result, as we know it, was that BYU's former co-workers (the MWC) managed to put out the fire without much damage, while BYU accidentally torched their new workplace and it burned to the ground, forcing them to seek contract employment.

THEY will make it sound like this was their plan all along, but in reality, the rest of the world has realized they're a terrible co-worker who poisons your office environment.

That 4-9 season they just had in football must have really made them rethink independence.

Looking at their schedule, getting back into the MWC would be a long shot. P5 heavy and the buyout per game would be roughly $1 mil.

If Gonzaga enters the MW for basketball they’ll be stranded in the WCC AND failing in independence for football. Almost too good to be true!
