Guessing Scott Hazelton will be Bohl's 1st choice.
Wasn't worth a damn at Nevada. I'm guessing that Bohl will be looking at overall resume's after the Stanard debacle.

I'm guessing we will know before signing day for recruits but not very long before that.

I would disagree - I think it has to be soon for defensive recruiting. Recruits want to know who "their" defensive coach is. Bohl didn't do this without thoughts of who he was going after weeks ago.

What about western Michigan d coordinator?

I think ties to that region are very important to coach bohl for recruiting purposes

He had the number 26 defense in the nation

Stanard was never a DC under Bohl previously (Lb coach only), while Hazelton was DC for Ndsu's 1st title with Bohl. His boss, Gus Bradley, HC Jacksonville Jaguars, just got the axe. So timing seems to align.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Vic Keonning as the DC.

He's the DC at Troy, so we can afford him.

He has a history of defensively tough football programs.

He's familiar with Laramie and understands the conference.

He runs a 4-3.

Vic has to be a finalist for this, although we may be looking for a Tampa 2 guy.

Jimmy Burrow, the DC at Ohio(under Frank Solich) might be the guy.

He's a Nebraska 76 graduate, so he could pick up Stanard's Nebraska recruiting.

He went with Bohl to NDSU when they first went to NDSU.

There are a lot of reasons to think this is a good fit.

This guy! A guy that needs to run a defense. His pedigree is about as good as it gets.

I wasn't talking about his history with Bohl. I was talking about his history as a D1 DC. Stanard was at CSU among others, and was never a good one.

Tressel's base salary was about $440,000 this season...more than Stanard and Vigen combined. If we want someone like him we are going to have to pay at LEAST $500,000, and probably more.

Not necessarily, but it would have to be a big number. Full control, different living conditions for young kids he's raising, climbing the ladder.

Phone calls are easy to make. An offer isn't absolute, and multiple donors might have interest.

Tressel is the perfect guy at the right time... The only category he doesn't fit is money... But money is the most negotiable aspect off hiring.

I just dont want a retread. I want a hungry and capable coach.

And here's the reason I'm starting to think it's Jimmy Burrow.

That and this....Burrow is only making 126 K at Ohio.

I definitely think Vic Keonning should be considered. Excellent Defense guy, would be an easy transition. Although some fans and doners probably still have bad taste in their mouth from his days as head coach here.

The budget is going to determine Bohls leverage on getting the best DC he can. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Jimmy Burrows previous coaching experience shows he has western recruiting roots.

I think an interesting metric would be looking at defensive standing vs youth of defensive unit. Coaching skill in that scenario is the only solution to the problem.

Consistent success would follow in importance to the first metric.

Just food for thought

Burrows might not be a bad hire. Although ohio was giving up more than 300 yards a game in the air. But a coach who can stop the run would be successful here because in nov-dec you dont have to worry as much about an air attack as our weather conditions make it tougher.

Yeah, and Burrow has been with Ohio for nine seasons in that roll, and the majority of time he's been there Ohio's defense has been very good.

I prefer we hire a young up and comer from a BCS program that might be able to take over the head coaching roll if Bohl moves on, but Jimmy Burrow seems like a good fall back plan.
