Because clearly they were recruited knowing most of them would quit before the end of the season...

Well Bohl recruited them, shows he clearly knows what a quality D1 walk on looks like.

*cough Aaron Young cough*
Hey he holds a quality ball for kicking. You can't put a scholarship price on that!

Another way Wyoming is unique. The last 2 coaching staffs have kept a scholarship holder. Lol

Yeah Sam graduated last year

so question...is that kid just horrid?

good guy just not talented?

I haven't heard a thing about him

I mean this as no disrespect to Nick Smith, but when he goes and sees his first ever college action versus Young going in who has played a year of JUCO ball tells me about all I need to know.

It is so much harder at this level being a walk-on than being scholar-shipped. You have to follow all of the same team and NCAA rules, but you miss out on a lot of the benefits. When the team hits the training table for a feast, the walk-ons have to scurry back to their dorms or the cafeteria to fuel up and then run back to be on time for film, etc. There's no monthly check waiting for them, yet they can't get a job. You have to attend study hall, even if your grades are fine. As a walk-on you determine that you're probably not going to get a scholarship, you might just decide that freeing up 30 to 40 hours of your time each week will offer a better college experience. Or it will give you some time to find another school, most likely at a lower level, where you might play and might get at least a partial scholarship.

Sam? Aaron?

Aaron
I don't know much about him, but I have to assume he's terrible at football. I know Sam was an amazingly great guy and I think he would have played in DCs offense a little bit if his knees weren't being held together by duct tape and zip ties. Really don't know a thing about Young though, I really thought he was gonna be the guy when he came in, a swing and a miss there

I've had the opportunity to talk to some Wyoming HS coaches and some HS sports personalities over the past couple weeks, and I've learned something very interesting- Wyoming high schools generally play 3-4 fewer games per season than bordering states' schools. This means that the average Wyoming HS football player graduates with almost a full season less experience than most other HS football players.

Just looking at a comparison with Minnesota, looks like both states have an 8-game regular season.

From there, looking at the WHSAA site, it appears there are a maximum of three playoff games? Minnesota teams have a 6- to 8-team section tournament before the state tournament, which means a team could play as many as six playoff games.

Yep. For 4A (largest division) there are 10 teams, total. The top 8 seeds advance to the playoffs. Wyoming has this same disadvantage for all sports though. To reach the little league world series regional finals in San bernardino, CA the wyoming teams needs to win only 1 tournament while teams from other states have seemingly endless tournaments months in advance. This same lack of experience can be to blame for wyoming not being historically successful there either.
