Another review of DC's rant

Pretty much guarantee Christensen will be done at the end of this year if not sooner and Wyoming will have a new head football coach next year.
Burman said otherwise, but talk is cheap......Burman also said that he had handled this issue with CDC's rant, but then suspends him a week later. I think things can still get worse though. What if this team loses out? 1-11. I've never heard of a "transition year" at 1-11. Hell, 3-9 is a stretch for that term. In a season where many had massive expectations coming in, this overall record and rant would get most fired. Guess we'll see.

When you get the endorsement from the AD saying "The coach will be back next year" that is not a good sign. It usually means just the opposite and that you will be gone. I've seen it happen numerous times. I'm 95% sure there will be a new head coach at Wyoming next year. Guess we will see.

Not saying that is what I want to happen but the whole "situation" has taken on a life of its own and nothing of it positive for the University of Wyoming.

Before the video, I would have never thought it possible for us to have a new coach next year (and frankly thought that a change would have been a bad idea). Now I fully agree with you that it is extremely likely and furthermore think that it is necessary for the good of our program.

I guess we'll see. As sad as it is, we're already two months into the college football season. Only 4-6 weeks left for most teams.....we'll know fairly soon after the season if anything happens. You cannot jeopardize recruiting.....so IF any change is made, it will likely happen rapidly after the SDSU game.

I am actually pissed off after I saw "how dare."
How dare could Trevor Mattich say "how dare?"
People just need to stay on football and what happened on the field.
Military service has nothing to do with DC's rant.

If they didn't like him during camp then they probably weren't coming anyway. Probably wouldn't have liked Nick Saban's camp either.

I still say this will all blow over. It's not like he physically assaulted a player like the ISU guy or his own coach like Mike Locksley. These were words to an opposing coach who pulled a fast one.

Just watched College Football Live on ESPN on my lunch break. They played the video of DC's rant in it's entirety (with a lot of bleeps, obviously). Trevor Mattich then made two good points. He questioned how DC could ever tell his players, with a straight face, about keeping their emotions in check. He also said all opposing coaches that are recruiting against Wyoming will have that video on hand to show parents and ask if that's the kind of person they want their kids playing for. Lastly, he chastised DC by saying "how dare he" talk to someone who has defended our country and is teaching men who will soon be going off to war that way.

The hits just keep on coming!

I always hate the "he has defended our country" and "have you served in the military" defense of certain persons because I believe that is unfair. I know about far too many military persons who are really bad people like murderers and rapists. I know too many war veterans who had families and abused those families because of all of the PTSD. I could go on ...........On the other side I know some good military guys too just to make it all seem so happy.

I haven't read all the messages yet but I suspect some of you are wondering if DC is going to be allowed back.
If I were a parent of a prospect and that video was used I'd warn the recruiter that my son and I know what really happened and that the subject is off limits.
I'd never respond to any interest from AF.

There's just a slight difference between Saban and Christensen. Kind of like the difference between a Casio and a Rolex. If the Rolex pinches, you'll probably keep it, if the Casio itches you'll toss it in the trash.

Charles Whitman and Lee Harvey Oswald come to mind...

I don't see the writing on the wall yet. The year Burman fired Glenn, he never came out and said Glenn had a job next year. He said he had to win 7 games and that was the goal. Glenn missed the goal and was fired.

Oh how I would have really loved to see this rant against Mendehall instead of Calhoun!

Anyways, even if this does hurt recruiting, part of what the coach is paid to do is to recruit. He won't be around long if he can't get new players on board.

On the other hand - this could help recruiting. It is far too early to tell what will happen.

I am famous! The point the parent made was DCs lack of humility and poor treatment of alumni and donors at the camp his kid went to. He brought up DC not thanking the donor of the semi that they transport the gear in. He also brought up the fact that parents aren't going to know or take the time to know the context of the video. They will just see him mouthing off to a coach and is coming off as a poor loser.

To those of you that with the idea that Coach Calhoun has no ethics, encourages his players to cheat, and is deceitful in the methods that he prepares and teaches some of the Air Force’ future leaders. In war, it is ethical to honor your enemy because he is just like you, a warrior. In war, it is honorable to be deceitful in order to kill your enemy before he kills you (to win the war). It is called ‘ambush’.
CDC’s personal weakness was exposed by the rant. Should we be surprised? He let on the week before that when after the Nevada game and the BS dismissal when he said that it was he, CDC , that he was a hot head and not BS. I think he inferred that in an attempt take the heat from BS. (As there were some implications that BS’ absence lost the game for UW.) I applaud CDC for sticking up for BS. The rant was still stupid nonetheless. He should have been fired.
CDC has proved that he is not the right man for the job for one, and for two, that UW is not capable of competing in D1 football. Next year, there will be two more new conference teams that will be better than UW. Can’t recruit against it and can’t compete against it…unless you think that going .500 (nearly so) is competing.
With TCU, BYU, UTAH, and now BSU and SDSU, our competitors, moving on to bigger and better(?) things, we’re left in a conference where we should be the lone standing stud. With Frenso and Reno this year, USU and SJSU next year, and the emergence of NM and UNLV, we’re in the bottom 7 of a 10 team conference, and will be so again and again in the next few years. Time for a change in direction and leadership.

Go Pokes, down a different road.

Unfortunately, I think Dave needs to go as soon as possible. I think he did some good things, but we have to have a sense of urgency to get this whole unfortunate occurrence past us, and firing Dave will do it instantly. It does two things: It separates the tirade from the University of Wyoming and places it completely on DC, and it makes Wyoming look like they do not condone what happened in any way.

Here is my question for all of you....legally...can we suspend someone and fine them 50$k AND then terminate them a week later?

Legally, we can fine and terminate anyone on the staff. The question becomes what does the contract say as to potential contractual liability (i.e. how much will the buyout be). If he is terminated there will be a negotiation as to the settlement amount, which will likely be lower than the amount if they were to fire him for no cause other than just poor on-field performance.

However, to get to your point the statement of support one week, followed by a fine and suspension the next week when the video is leaked, followed by a termination the following week will weaken Wyoming's bargaining power as to the settlement amount.

Doesn't that just sound like a little bit of BS to you? A parent at a football camp takes offense to how alumni and boosters are treated. Seriously? Is a summer camp a booster and alumni venue? Bottom line the guy doesn't like Christensen and is taking his shots now. Probably Christensen didn't treat his kid like an all-star and it hurt dad's feelings. It's BS.

And I personally know the guy who donates the equipment truck for the football team. He has never complained once about anything like this and is a staunch supporter of the team. Of course, they could be using a different truck for the camp, so I guess you can take that with a grain of salt.

He wasn't the only one to complain about DC nor was he the only caller saying he wouldn't let his kid go to Wyoming now.

Does it really matter? Hell, this generation of players is largely made up of those that either quit after 2 years, transfer after 2 years, or have the work ethic of snail shit.

I grant that may be the case, but I think that particular guy's argument doesn't pass the stink test.

We'll see. He may change his tune depending on what, if any, his other offers are.
