Sweet! AA has been getting better and better! Here's to AA winning the trophy. :thumb:
AA had 5 good games and 7 bad games. Almost half of his yards came in the last 3 games against our fellow bottom dwellers. With another year under his belt, a better OC, a seemingly better OL and a schedule that is not as difficult, combined with another true freshman QB (more run, less throw) I could see a healthy AA doubling his yards for the season and challenging for this award. I think AA has a chance at catching D-Mo's yardage record. He played like a beast at the end of the season last year. Before that he ran out of bounds too much for my liking. If short of the first down it appeared to be giving up on a play, if after the first down it was less annoying but it seemed like he could make a move and try to score....this isnt the pros yet quit trying to save your body and try to win the game.
I think AA is a fantastic athlete, has good hands and leaping ability to catch the ball. He has good balance, open field speed, all the tools you need to be a very good back. If he shows the ability to fight for first downs to keep the chains moving he has a shot to go pro.
Is seems like he was frustrated with the blocking at times (which is somewhat understandable)... but if he plays pissed off or like he did against CSU all year he will have a great season. I think AA could be all conference against some stiff competition.

If he gets good blocking all year, he should stay on the watch list the whole time.
I don't think anyone on the forum would say AA is the best RB in the country, but he does have the potential, especially early on, to put up some big numbers and stay in the hunt. Against the weaker teams the last 3 weeks he averaged 6.5 a carry. If the 1st 3 games this year are similar, who knows? The 4th game against Nebraska will probably be a reality check, but then last season it was the 4th game against Air Force that he had his 1st big game. After Nebraska it's Utah State and UNLV. I see him coming close to last year's totals by mid-season.TheRealUW said:

All i remember is when he gets frustrated he doesn't play for shit. The unlv game last year on a 3rd and 2 at the 18 yard line going in, He got the ball on a sweep. Had blockers, but the defenders closed quick. So what does he do? He runs the sweep straight to the sideline, gaining no ground and instead of even turning forward and bulldozing for one or even the two yards we needed, he just trots out of bounds for a loss of three yards! That is not good tough football. That is not good decision making. That is cowardice.
And it wasn't the only time he did that either. He did it five times against Texas, Twice against SUU, Three against BYU, Four times against Utah, Five times against Boise, four times against TCU, twice against SDSU. Oh yeah, i almost forgot, Twice against Toledo as well.
that's 27 carries for purposeful negative yardage! figure he averaged about 4 yard loss each time. Add that in a positive, trying note, and AA might have had an extra 100 + yards on the season. Notice in all of his good games, he never did that crap!
Does he have the potential? Yes. Does he need to think? Hell yes.
Had to get that out! I've had nightmares about that crap. I had a kid do that crap in HS. He would run out of bounds instead of dropping his head down and trying for yardage. Needless to say, at practice I placed two of my biggest defenders on the sidelines out of bounds, and "so called" out of the play. But I told them that if he runs for the sideline to get out of bounds to clock him! We broke him of his bad habit. So instead of running for his soph and jr averages of 500 and 525 yards a season, he actually turned up field and "amazingly" broke some tackles and made some big gains, where he would have previously lost three or four yards. In the end he had his best season. 1017 yards 13 tds.

i feel ya Kansascowboy, i sat in the stands griping about it last year because it was driving me crazy. against csu i was even commenting on how amazing it is that good things happen when you stay in bounds. i am not sure if someone talked to him or if he was pissed, but he played that whole game different. i dont remember him running out once. i think having all the depth will keep him focused this year, other backs hungry for touches wont run out of bounds. i still think AA is a heck of a back. Ghalli had some nice runs in the return game and should be a physical, Kongo should be hungry for touches and then there is Brandon Miller who is actually listed number one right now since he was the only haelthy one during the spring. I still hope Kody Sutton redshirts just because i want to see as much of him as possible. i love his highlight reel. if history shows us anything DC will play him right away if he thinks he will help us win now. our RB position is more loaded than i can ever remember.
I bet that is why Ghalli was moved to RB. If we all saw what was going on, you know DC saw it too but we didn't have much quality depth at RB last year. If Kongo is healthy and stays out of trouble, he and Ghalli will push AA for the starts. I'm not knocking AA, he has great potential but there was some desire lacking.
