Allen going 3rd overall?

I'm honestly not too worried even if Josh leaves. Tyler Vander Waal seems like a great candidate to continue moving this program forward as a true freshman (so we at least have him for 3 years). If Josh Allen feels this is in his best interest, then by all means.

No...we're not going to take a giant step back. Josh is a gunslinger no doubt, he has a HUGE arm! But this Waal kid, IMO, is more athletic than Josh and has a good arm. Football success is defined at the line of scrimmage, and I think we will be vastly improved on both sides of the football. That's why I'm not too concerned at the moment.

Just rewatched some of his tape...he's connecting on 50+ yd passes and is exceptionally more athletic than Josh (which translates well in college). You have no need to be worried.

I'm not interested in starting a true freshman when we could have first round talent with experience back there.

Chemistry, knowledge of the playbook, It would be a step back. There isn't a ton of margin for error in college football. We were a two win team a season ago and josh Allen was the biggest difference this season

I guess what it all comes down to is does Josh Allen want to play right away or sit on the bench for a while to learn and continue to develop with no guarantee that he'll actually make it. It's tough to learn to be a QB in the NFL. NFL defenses eat up inexperienced quarterbacks on a yearly basis. The best option is for Allen to stick around in Laramie for 2 more years and learn from Bohl and Company and then be ready to go in the first round in 2019.

I don't dispute any of this but I look at it a different way. Let's say he declares this year and get's drafted mid/late first round. Paxton Lynch was drafted 26th overall in the 1st round last year and his contract is 4 yr 9.5 million with 7.9 guaranteed. First round QBs never get cut so you could say the full 9.5 mill is guaranteed. That's a life changing amount of money. As long as you're not stupid that sets you and your kids up for life. Now while I fully agree it would benefit him developmentally to play another year or two, what if he comes back and get seriously injured? What if he struggles over the next two years and doesn't get drafted? If you had 10 million dollars staring you in the face would you gamble and go back to school knowing the risks or would you take the 10 million? I know what I'd do.

I don't want to sound like Im rooting for him to leave because that's definitely not the case. I just wouldn't blame the kid if he did.

False, football games are won in the trenches. At the height of our performance we had both Granderson and Appleby on the D line. If they had played the rest of the season we would have won the MWC title and beat Houston in the Vegas Bowl. Chase Rouillier has been our biggest loss of the season. You think Allen can extend plays....just wait.

I won't disagree an all American o line is a huge loss but he was there last year an we won 2 games. Granderson was out in the airforce game. We beat both top 25 teams without him or appleby. Josh Allen is the guy who was the difference maker.

Not on this forum, but I called it when I watched Brian Hill's tape when he was first recruited. I knew he would be a productive player in his freshman year! Guess what, he turned out to be the best RB WYO has produced in the history of Wyoming football. Now, I'm not stating Waal has the arm that Allen does (he may never have it); however, he has a pretty damn good arm and is more athletic than Josh Allen. With the improvements at the O and D line I don't think it will make much of a difference if Allen is gone.

Right now I'm saying Allen stays because I see how much seasoning he needs. But if he does go I hope we can find more depth fast at qb.

You will soon be witness to my correct assessments. Look on the MWC board, I said Bohl wouldn't go to Minnesota before it became cool...and I was right. Let's keep this thing rolling! I don't think Josh Allen will leave, but I'm not confident enough to make that prediction. Right now I would say it's 50/50. He's got a lot of buzz going around and has the tools NFL scouts are drooling for. Heck, some guy on this forum said it's crazy to think he would leave next year, then I responded that's it's crazy to realistically see him gone this year. I know what I'm talking about.
