Allen going 3rd overall?

I do have a hard time believing he would go but How deflating would it be if he did leave. What was once a promising season would be much more depressing.

There's no bigger fan of Josh Allen, but it would be a huge mistake for him to leave. He needs to get a lot better at making reads. A lot of his best throws were on broken plays after he scrambled. We know he has amazing physical tools, but so did Ryan Leaf. He leads us to a MW title next year and a good bowl and then his draft potential will be maximized.

The more looking I do, the more I think this guy wants to be the one who started the Josh Allen hype. He had that mock draft without Malik Hooker in it because he had not declared but included Josh who many consider a long shot to declare. Really a grab for attention.

Unreal. I really hope he stays because he has a LOT more to work on and could have a special year or two more in the brown and gold. His decision making is questionable at best at this point.

That said...if he is really being discussed as a top 5 pick and there is a pretty good feeling that he will go that high, he probably would be smart to leave. I believe it was Matt Barkely that was a projected top 5 pick (perhaps a different USC QB) that stayed an extra year, had his flaws exposed and fell multiple rounds.

It's just crazy that we are actually discussing this as a possibility. He certainly has the physical tools but it would be a huge gamble for an NFL team to risk such a high pick for a guy with so little experience.

I'd fucking die if Allen left. Ugh. I'm just going to pretend no one knows there's an awesome QB in Wyoming

I agree with this. What is interesting is Matt Miller could be the one to get the hype ball rolling, though.

Allen has a lot of maturing to do in terms of decision making before he has a shot of making it in the NFL. Aside from the ones that DID get picked off, how many throws did he get away with this season that an NFL secondary would take away every time? A dozen?

Draft Twitter is coming to the rescue. They are tearing Josh a new one today. Josh noticed all the Matt Miller hype yesterday, I'm hoping he sees this too. They (draft twitter) are not being kind.

Nor should they be. Allen has terrific gifts, but his lack of maturity within the game is showing. In fact, one could argue that he's a worse QB now than he was in the first half of the season. A lot of his bad decisions have likely come as a result of OVER-confidence in his arm and his legs. He is not yet methodical in his check-downs and his reads on defense need quite a bit of work.

Discipline comes with experience and reflection, and Josh Allen needs all three in spades if he's going to aspire to the next level.

Makes you wonder what Matt Miller's motivation was. You know Josh was surprised by this news from Miller. Then the random publicity storm hit and suddenly the interest went up.

IMO, no GM is going to take a chance on a 1 year starter in the MWC. I love stuff by Ian M, but I disagree that NFL could draft on potential. Teams will waity and draft the right guy. Allen could be the right guy some day, just not right now.

Stay in school.

He's not ready yet. He has to polish those physical tools. He's too feast or famine right now. If he declares, it has Cardale Jones written all over it.

Part of that could be because he surprised everybody early on. Then after several games the opposing DCs (the good ones anyway) could see subtle weaknesses and tried to capitalize on them and were sometimes successful.

Losing Josh Allen would be terrible in the short run and I personally do not think he is ready yet. However, long term this would be great for recruiting. Bohl would have two top 3 picks and Wyoming could be the new quarterback u. The pro style system the pokes run is perfect for getting quarterbacks ready for the next level.

Allen's chances of being successful are significantly lower if he were to declare this year. He has everything physically, but he has a long way to go as a passer which is why staying for 2 more years would be ideal. Staying at least one more is in his best interest. The money will be there no matter what happens as he is a quarterback with a monstrous arm. There is a strong correlation between college starts and NFL success for quarterbacks. Hopefully Allen is aware of this and plans for a long career rather than chasing the money now. It would be one thing if he were a running back, but quarterbacks should stay in school.

Interesting comparison here. When Ohio St won the national championship, everyone agreed that if Cardale Jones had declared for the draft that year he would have went 1st round, maybe 1st QB overall. He decided to stay one more year and that ended up hurting him, and he was drafted 4th round.

Now I fully agree that Josh Allen has more developing to do, and I want him to stay until he graduates, but if he has the opportunity to be drafted 1st round you have to take it.

You have to know he has at least heard from projected draft round by now so we just have to wait and see how it pans out but this is a horrible QB draft and a lot of teams that need one.
