From what I've heard directly from multiple players, Jeremy is respected by the guys but is kinda seen as the coach's cute little kid that comes to practice. Doesn't really have the basketball resume to be viewed as a legitimate basketball coach, but a great assistant

What?

Maybe I'm confused because I don't get it but, how can you refer to someone as "the coaches cute little kid that comes to practice" then refer to that same person as a "great assistant"?

Calling Jeremy Shyatt the coaches cute little kid that comes to practice is an enormous disrespect to him.
I think what he was getting at, atleast this is how I read his comment, is this: the PLAYERS view him as a cute little coaches kid while Cali2Wyo views him as a good assistant, not quite yet deserving a high profile job.

Take that as you will.

I took it to mean the players like and respect him and he is a good coach but he is viewed from the outside as the coaches kid. He hasn't had enough experience other than from his dad to get the respect outside that he deserves. Thats how I read it at least. Was kinda confusing. I think he is a good coach and I would be happy with him taking over after Papa shy retires. Or Allen Edwards.

Sorry for being confusing. The topic was discussed in casual conversation and I couldn't really figure out how to put the thoughts into words. Basically, some players really believe Jeremy is great at breaking down film and identifying keys to success (assistant duties). But due to his lack of playing/coaching experience they at times think he doesn't have the intangibles that papa shy, Edwards, and Duncan have. The coach's kid comment was taken out of context, sorry for not clarifying.

I personally think he's a great asset to our program, but I see Edwards and Duncan having more head coach potential.

Is this truly how players feel about him? Who knows, their argument seems logical but I've never seen any instances of disrespect towards him. I'm sure they love having him.

Didn't Jeremy lead us to a victory over Air Force when Papa Shy was out ill?
Jeremy had a resume, it's not amazing because he's one of the youngest coaches, but he got his start away from his dad at North Florida.

Jeremy was raised and grew up with basketball coaching in his blood.

The Shyatt critiques are the same Minnesota fans heard about Pitino.

Probably not the best comparison. Pitino isn't doing so hot...

EKU named Minnesota top assistant Dan McHale head coach today. UK grad and spent time at Louisville under Rick Pitino.

Also N. Kentucky who Coach Edwards was in the running for that position as well named Alabama top assistant as their head coach earlier this week. So looks like for right now Coach Edwards will still be with us. Good for us of course. Coach Edwards will eventually get a head coaching job though. Who knows maybe it will be with us one of these days if Shyatt retires.

I am glad he is staying at Wyo for now. I think in just a couple of seasons he will be a sought after guy.
