Air Force game thread

Anybody want to bet Sawful says “we’re just going to have do better”………
And he stated:

"So, we have to coach him better in that situation, because we should have just tucked it and gotten what we could have gotten out of it without throwing the ball in that situation.
"We made a mistake. Any time there's a mistake made, it's a coaching mistake. So, that's the way we have to look at it."

As others have written here, there is player talent on this team. It’s the coaches’ jobs to put these guys in position for success. Yet, every week the coaches show the same level of incompetence that costs the team wins. As frustrating as it is for us fans, it’s got to be even worse for the players.

AFA was ripe for the picking. Sawful and Co. weren’t up to the task.

I feel bad for Bohl and the defense. They've been one of the best defenses in the conference, and came in with a stop rate that was Top 25 in the country. And they lived up to it.

Held an AFA offense that had scored 48, 31, 45, and 37 in their previous four games (against far better teams overall) to only 24 points in spite of horrendous offensive mishaps and a lopsided ToP for much of the game. And we continue to play the AFA version of the triple option better than almost anyone else in the conference.

Hats off to the S&C staff too, because I don't know how our defense still has any gas left in second halves with the way our offense leaves them hanging out to dry.

Anyway...I hated the Johnson hire from the get-go. Sawvel panicked and grabbed him because he needed a veteran OC quick, and he's worked with JJ before. But there's a reason every fan of his former teams groaned and said "Wyoming, what is u doin BB?"

And I took a lot of heat on here initially for trashing the JJ hire for some odd reason, but almost two years of this crap has me feeling pretty vindicated. I'd much rather have been wrong, though.

it's wild to me that Aaron Bohl...a man who did his time, came up through the ranks (first as a GA, then as a position coach), was in charge of our strongest positional group for years and sent multiple players to the NFL, and was personally mentored by his father (who happened to be one of the better defensive minds in the game)...took sooooo much crap by everybody here for being a "nepo hire" who didn't "earn" the promotion.

Man ends up being the best coach on the staff, lol.

I can’t recall a single person on here excited with the Jay Johnson hire when it happened and not now. Maybe I missed that.

That’s the way I recall it. Felt the same. I even commented that the Wyoming AD media releases only focused on we got our guy from Michigan State who had one good year.

His claim to OC fame was the 2021 MSU team that went 11-2 with 424 YPG in offense.

He was fired from MSU after posting a Bohl like 289 YPG in 2023.

We now know Vigan and Polasek were not the problems with poor offensive performance but they did their job the way CB wanted it done.

Between the offensive ineptitude of Sawful and JJ this performance issue will continue indefinitely.

Correct about Bohl, but incorrect about Johnson. Everyone hated him.

Also people were upset that Big Bohl stuck us with sawvel to get his son as a coach.? That’s the source of the animosity, not that Aaron became a DC
