Air Force and Boise State

I have been thinking a lot about the seemingly inevitable end that Air Force and Boise go to the Big East. While I would like to keep Air Force, the only reason we invited Boise was to bolster Utah, BYU and TCU to force our way into the BCS. They are all gone, and along with them, any real shot of getting into the BCS - WITH or WITHOUT Boise State. I couldn't care less about Boise and their arrogance - they have no tradition with the conference or our team. I say, don't let the door hit you on the way out - and leave the money on the bar as you leave.

In terms of Air Force, I think they are making a mistake. When the BCS does its rejiggering and works to consolidate even more power, the Big East and its AQ - if there is such a thing - will be given to the SEC, Big 10 or Big 12. I will miss the trip to Colorado Springs and the traditions and great games with them.

From there, I think we should add a team or two, maybe Hawaii in all sports or a Texas school or two - stand pat with the CUSA relationship (as it gives us some strength in numbers to put up at least a semblance of a fight against the cartel) and then WORK LIKE HECK to ensure that our Pokes use this as an opportunity to win and build the program. Only with wins do we have a shot of not being a left-over, has-been, soon-to-be FCS school.

Boise State means nothing. And they will be just another 6 win team with shitty fans sooner than later. I could care less where they go, or what they do. It isn't like there are years of competitions between us and them. AFA on the other hand...

CSU – 102 GAMES (1899)
UTAH – 83 GAMES (1904)
BYU – 77 GAMES (1922)
NM – 63 GAMES (1930)
UTAH ST – 62 GAMES (1903)
AIR FORCE - 49 GAMES (1957)
UTEP – 33 GAMES (1962)
SDSU – 32 GAMES (1978)
COLORADO – 27 GAMES (1900)
ARIZONA – 22 GAMES (1936)

Excluding Colorado and Arizona, and as bad as I can’t stand these schools, the reason I don’t like them is because they are our rivals. Whether people think that history is important or not, I personally think that it’s disappointing that we won’t be playing some of our rivals. The enjoyment of beating one of your rivals is what college football should be all about but money is king! Just kind of disappointing.

How many envious/jealous butt-hurt threads are we going to have about this? There's 3 or 4 already.

J-Rod - if you don't like the topic - don't read it. And I am not butt hurt or envious, specifically with regard to Boise. Further, I am not envious with regard to Air Force, as I don't think what they are doing is anything to be jealous of - but I am going to miss the rivalry. Geez...I thought this was a message board where you posted your thoughts about things affecting Wyoming and Wyoming football...

I've got agree with this. Having grown up in Evanston, WY and the majority of my family being mormons I'm really missing the BYU rivalry already, that was one of my favorites.

Alright "J-Rod", you tell me.. what do you think? Are you excited about playing the WAC schools or even dropping down to play the Big Sky?? Since you don't care about traditions, you looking forward to making trips to Weber, No. Col, maybe even Chadron? Dazzle us with your brilliance, please?

lol.. Weber and NoCo aren't anywhere near being a FBS team, NoCo is barely a FCS team.. Chadron isn't even a D1 school, they're D2.

BSU, well outside of a handful, they've been worse than the worst BYU fans. So good riddance.

The real kicker though, is Air Force. Especially their hypocrite of an AD, when he chewed out other schools for following the almighty dollar and then saying he's doing the same.

Why is it that just because we are going to be left behind as far as the BCS is concerned, people believe we are automatically destined to FCS? I don't see the logic there. We will still be non-AQ, not fall off the face of the earth as some suggest.

I'll actually put a different spin on it. With Utah, TCU, AFA, and Boise all going on to BCS conferences their records will likely suffer and will slowly start to putter off in mediocrity. They are then trapped, while teams like Wyoming, SDSU, Nevada, etc are likely to have better records because those teams mentioned above are gone. Suddenly we become one of the top tier non-AQ programs instead of mid to low tier one. Hopefully by then the BCS will have died & a better system in place.

FIXED TO APPEASE THE WHINERS

Titleist, what I meant was if we get left out in the cold, are weber's, no co's, mont's who we will be left with to play? I just threw in chadron cause I was pissed... I think its ok to be pissed and disappointed that our rivals that we have played forever are leaving. I always felt that they weren't any better than us!

I hate the term - mid-major. Sounds kinda like junior high.
Same here. A bullshit term used by the AQ conferences to try and diminish the non-AQs.

Besides, non-AQ is a much more correct term.

+1. WYO is where we should be right now. It sucks some of our oldest rivals have left but the schools left in the MWC are still good peer insitutions for WYO and we will have just a good of chance as anyone else to rise up again.

The Montana schools should be considered Wyoming's peers.. especially in terms of tradition, size of campus, and quality of football programs.. Weber and NoCo are no such thing. I think a conference that included Montana, Montana State, Wyoming, CSU, SDSU, UNLV, UNM, UNR, Fresno, Hawaii, Idaho and some other schools sprinkled in would make for some nice competition, and have us competing against peer institutions (enrollment, AD budgets, etc). But I'll be disappointed if AFA leaves. Without TCU, BYU, and Utah in the conference, AFA has a better shot now to compete on the same level locally than in the previous conference formation. I don't think they'll fare as well in the Big East, if they make that move. Boise would probably dominate the Big East, just like they did the WAC, but they'd really be selling the rest of their athletics down the river.

I could care less about fan bases, and how much particular fanbases suck, every fan base has their share of douchenozzles, even our own, so programs moving in and out of conferences relating to fan bases is whatever.. douchebags are everywhere.
