AFA Game

A young Air Force opens as 5.5 favorites next Saturday in the Springs. This AFA team is an uncharacteristically 1-5 but probably should have won its last two at both Navy and UNLV. Also, uncharacteristically this AFA team has scored a lot of points (at least 30 every game) and has given up a lot of points.

AFA also has a decent to good passing game and is throwing the ball much much more than it has in the past.

I think this is the toughest game left on the schedule despite the 1-5 record. I don’t see the Cowboys pulling it off but hope I am wrong and our defense will be able to contain both the traditional option and passing attacks.

I’ll predict AFA 31-23. Prove me wrong please.

Our coaching staff will probably be surprised by their passing game.

I can hear Sawvel already..."They did some things on offense that they had not shown on tape previously". As if that is a legitimate excuse to not have our team prepared for anything they might see.

I literally cannot stand Sawvel and this coaching staff.

In their 4 conference losses, Air Force giving up an average of 45 points. I watched the end of the UNLV game. The Air Farce defense is small, but slow. UNLV was down 3 and went the length of the field in less than a minute for the game winning td. If we can't score against this defense, then Sawvel and his equally untalented OC should be fired in the locker room after the game. And if Anderson can't light it up against this group, then it's time to change qb's.

My guess is that we score 17-20 points. We are a terrible offensive football team. Watching our WR corps running around with no sense of where the ball was - was disheartening. Watching our QB not feel any blind-side pressure only to get smoked multiple times and luck out on the "pass" to our OLman - followed by several terrible interceptions - was frustrating. That stuff may not even lead to AFA scores, but it will lead to long, time-consuming drives that are depleting mentally and physically for any defense. The offense simply has to be better or the defense will get mowed down...literally.

We are also terrible on special teams and better find some discipline or AFA will grind us into the ground. Personal foul penalties that keep our defense on the field - like the hands to the face stupidity in the 4th Q against Joser - are deadly against AFA. That nonsense can't be anywhere to be found against the Falcons...and they are masters at egging teams on to do stupid things.

Weird to see AFA with this bad a Defense. Probably time for Calhoun to hang up the whistle and retire to the cabin. Get into falconry and rip a few quail up in midair....

Covid rules/eligibility played havoc on their classes. AFA has a pretty inexperienced/young defense (and at key offensive positions too). It seems that they will have their typical yearly waves of upper class men starting next year. They are my pick to win the Mountain West next year after watching both the Navy and UNLV games. They have a real gamer as a sophomore starting QB (Liam Szarka) who brings back memories of Beau Morgan too me.
