I was sure impressed how competitive the team was sans Josh.
I think it shows, once again, that a Shyatt-coached team is never completely out of it at UW.
On the tough side of that statement Shyatt coached teams at UW are now 42-46 (.477) in conference play (33-41 in MWC play (.445)). I honestly struggle with losing more conference games than winning no matter how close the scores are. There is still hope for a recovery and a winning record in conference play this year, but if it does not happen that will mean 4 out 5 years in MWC play we are .500 or below.
Sure losing by 10 when a star player goes down when the game was close most of the way is better than losing badly like we saw at the end of McClain and during Schroyer, but in the end a loss is a loss and it does impact enthusiasm as in the number of empty seats - even though today had one of the larger crowds.
Is it unreasonable for any Poke fan to want to be a winner in conference play? At least there is some promise that if the league stays as weak as it is currently, this group may just get to the better than .500 record in conference play next year or the year after. But - that is another Wyoming story - wait and wait and wait. The MWC is not a very strong league this year sitting at 9th in Sagarin RPI indexes and UW is at 8-11 versus D1 teams.
