From the AD's press conference...

TOM BURMAN:
* what are criteria for a new coach
- Leadership, orgainzational skills
- Recruiting ability
- What staff can they bring with them
- Want a winner, won't limit to any given level of coaching experience (BCS vs. lower div)

* Timeline?
- No set timeline.

* JG was good at outreach - was the only thing that could save his job a bowl game?
- No. Expected a winning record. 7 wins.
- Bottom line. Three conf wins in last two seasons.

* Does JG have a job offer from Wyo?
- JG and Buchanan are talking about potential roles at the UW

* Any plans to continue recruiting?
- Contacting all our current recruits, but they could leave.
- There are four commits, and we'll contact them to stay.
- We are "a ways behind." But won't let this year's recruiting dictate the hiring process.

* Can you confirm that Gilmore will be in on Tuesday?
-...silence...

* What's the interim status? Assistants?
- Assistants contracts through 12/31.
- New coach will decide if assistants will stick around.
- Academics are in good hands. No other need to name interim leadership. Will have to address again later if search goes into winter conditioning?

* Do you have a model MWC program regardign turnaround?
- Not MWC - Boise State. They have really good coaches, and replace them from within. Wants to be in that situation here.

* Short list of candidates?
- Won't comment on his list.

* How important are the offensive credentials of the new hire.
- They'll have to demonstrate offensive commitement. Not going to just hire an offensive coach. Want best coach possible.

* - Do TCU/BYU/Utah success shorten your timline for improving the progrm
- No

* - When was decision made to let JG go?
- Unofficially, it was Saturday night, when I met w/ Glenn

Commenting on Neinas - They provide extensive background on coaches. Using them to vet his candidates and provide input from around the coaching profession.

Other comments:
- We're always limited. We won't be able to pay what TCU pays Patterson. but we can pay competitively within the conference.
- We'll be aggressive, but within reason. Want to support our ongoing investments.

Nothing positive there really. Is it just me, or is there something missing...like passion & fire. Maybe it is just the "tone" from reading it instead of hearing &/or seeing it.

Some reasonable comments in there, but a lot of head nodding.

BTW, Peachy, thank you for posting. I love that avatar.

So is the AD satisfied that we can't pay the same as TCU?, along with their recruiting advantages, are we just hoping to get lucky? That pisses me off. Do something about it, START A UW FOOTBALL COACH ENDOWMENT, something fans can donate to, build up, sustain, and use the revenue to compete nationally for the best coaches. TRY SOMETHING to TURN UW INTO A FOOTBALL COACHING FACTORY. Can't say it enough, we can pay for good coaching (HC, Coord, Position Coaches, etc) and that will be the fastest way to turn this thing around.

Hell, if we had just 10,000 fans give $100 after one home win we would have our first million in the endowment. If we had 10 Million earning 8%, that would produce $800,000 annually that could take us from $500k range up to TCU's $1.3 million range. The $800,000 alone would put us near the top of the MWC and the other $500k could be used to get the best OC, DC, and position coaches available. If the state would match these funds we could build this mother in a hurry. Maybe down the road 3 million a year for a Nick Saban type of coach wouldn't be out of reason, and fully funded by an endowment.
