ACS named starting QB

Thought this deserved it's own thread.

Thoughts?

I'd say it's about time we stop splitting reps 50/50 with the #1 O...that could be hurting our preparation, therefore may explain why out O has looked THAT BAD on saturdays.

Good for the team. TheRealUW's been predicting it for months. He's overcome with happiness right now. :)
Finally settling on a guy will certainly help, hopefully the rotation will end. I saw this at Montana 4 years ago, this exact situation. MT brought in a transfer from Bowling Green, everyone hyped him as the next Michael Vick (minus the pooch killing and arm strength and speed), they also recruited a true freshman with a decent set of wheels. Season rolls along, mini-Vick plays well, then gets hurt. Freshman QB comes in, plays as good as a freshman can, mini-Vick is healed, but they leave in the true freshman the rest of the season, including the playoffs (a 1st round playoff loss), and he ended up having one of the best career records for a MT QB when he graduated last season. How does this compare? Easy.. Benjamin came in with a lot of hype, now he's out of the picture for the true freshman.. will they go the same path? I sure hope so.

It's a demonstration of Dave's commitment for the future. Smart move, high stakes.

He knows he has at least 3 years, these freshmen will be kicking ass (if still healthy) in three years.

He might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

It seems to me there's a high probability the season's been written off, and they're planning for next year.

I could be wrong.

Based on what? ACS has been the more accurate and consistant QB we have after 3 games. Why would we write off the season after only three games? Some of our fans need to eat some of BYU's green jello. They are a bunch of pricks, but at least they get behind their team.

Amen. I can't believe that we play one bad game (ONE!) and everyone gives up. Sure CU was a struggling team, but they are still a Big 12 school. We have a new coach who was given a sh*t team. He has brought in some good recruits, but we can't expect him to turn it around in one season. At least wait for us to get through a few conference games before you all start to call it a year and start heading to the AA instead of the War.

Just remember, the football brain trust, the gurus of the sport, had the Pokes picked 9th in the MWC. So if they finish 8th that certainly wouldn't be great, but would be something to celebrate (although minimally)

Actually, I'm not happy at all with the current situation. I was thinking more along the lines of Benjamin playing decently and ACS just shining too much in his limited time to keep him off the field. Instead, Benjamin essentially just gave the job away. Benjamin seems to be another one of those guys that looks great in practice but can't put it together in a game. I have always thought that ACS was the most talented QB on the roster, but I thought Benjamin was right on his tail. Hell, I'm not even sure Benjamin should be #2 after what I have seen out of him. I still think we will finish 5-7, just like I thought after the Weber State game. I think that first half against Texas really gave a lot of people unrealistic expectations. UNLV is a huge game and will tell us a lot about how the rest of the season will go. What worries me is that all teams have had to do to shut down this offense so far is play a base defense. They certainly haven't had to do anything too crazy. If UNLV plays a base defense and shuts us down, we are in major trouble. UNLV isn't a bad team. If we play like we did against CU, the score will be a lot worse then what it was down in Boulder.

One could argue that the the offense haven't played a good game, yet. Weber is not a good yardstick unless we blow them out, which we didn't. Weber threw 5 picks. The offense has done nothing, nothing at all, since the Weber game, where they were given many opportunities by the D and/or Weber's mistakes.

So, the reason I say this is we are now starting a true Frosh at QB, after moving a returning senior starter to 3rd string and a juco transfer (supposedly familiar with this type of offensive system) to 2nd string. That does not suggest to me a plan to win, and win soon.

There was not a significant difference, in my opinion, in the production between the juco transfer and the frosh.

However, as I said I could be wrong. The coaches (at least the one coach with offensive coordinator, or even offensive assistant experience...oh hell, I won't beat around the bush...Christiansen) may truly believe ACS is on the rise and will win soon. It just doesn't smell right to me.

Bergquist was a bad ass. He didn't make it in Canada though. Jason Washington was the Bowling Green QB. He owns 406 Motoring in Missoula now.

Amen to ACS picking up the W!

he owns 406 Motoring? haha thats funny and yeah im an optimist i think we can go at least 5-7

He was actually running that business before he graduated from UM.. I think he started it shortly after Bobby booted him from the team (never heard why..).

I guess we'll see. A touchdown would be an improvement. Right now the offense couldn't find the endzone with a GPS unit.

It also should not go overlooked that Terry was demoted to 3rd string and Alvester Alexander will start. Alexander is also a freshman, so we will have an all-frosh backfield...
