A win is NOT a win
by theman

I recently read a post on another site how "a win IS a win" and how you won't hear him ever complain about how much we win by....

I do not subscribe to the arguement that a win is a win. I believe that how you played the game is more important than if you won the game or not. For Instance, Last Saturday Rather than "winning" vs. Weber State the way we did, I would rather have LOST at Alabama 22-21 in a game in which we dictated but they got a controversial last minute TD and subsequent 2 pt conversion to escape. I would feel much, much better about that. Giving up 500+ yds to WEBER ST. does not have me excited.

Also; We can only count one win per year vs. FCS opponents towards bowl eligibility. So if we are lucky enuf to beat west texas state or whoever we play, it doesn't even count.

In conclusion: If a win were a win, Why did Auburn drop out of the rankings after they beat Utah State? :coffee:

A win is NOT a win.

I kind of, in a wierd way, agree. As a fan that is. Even though you feel good for the W, you feel intimidated by what the future holds, based on performance during said "win".

I always hold out hope for W's against everyone. Regardless. And unfortunately, I have been disappointed most of my UW football loving life.

Uh... yeah, it is...

Especially when you're Wyoming coming off several mediocre-at-best years, working out first-game jitters, breaking in a freshman quarterback and a new OC, and trying to find yourself as a team. At the end of the year no one will remember the score. But we'll all look back and say "we should have beaten Weber St, and we did."

Me either, but those problems are fixable (missed tackles, blown coverage, etc.) and I think English will get the defense ready this week.

May not count to you, but it counts to every true Poke fan out there. Every game counts at this stage when you're trying to build a program.

Because style points matter when you're in the top 25. They cease to be as important when you're down near 100.

Lay off dude. We won the game, ugly or not, and our freshman QB stepped up and did his job well. Previous teams would have found a way to lose that game. Yeah the defense needs some work, but let's see how they do this week before we make any long-term judgements.

GO POKES!

A win is a win at the FCS level since there is a playoff system that provides a true champion.

A win is not always a win at the FBS level thanks to the BCS system. I think a win is a win, even if by 1 point, but at the FBS level a team not only has to win, but win with style. And then it depends on how well your opponets fair after you beat them. It's a screwed up system, and it has been beaten like a dead horse, but that's the way it goes.

So, give Wyo's situation, a win isn't always a win, unfortunately.

A win is a win until the next week. Teams can play badly. O's and D's can play badly. Doesn't mean they are until they are. Our D could suck against Texas St. and then play better against the MW. Who knows. I reserve judgement until we play more games.
