Based off the numbers this entire conference right now looks like the old 90's WAC. All offense and no Def. Every team slung it out in shootouts. And that looks exactly like the MWC today. Teams points given up: AFA 30.0 ppg, BSU 11.6, CSU 27.5, FSU 23.2, HAW 40.0, NEV 28.5, UNM 32.2, SDS 26.7, UNLV 29.2, WYO 33.0. These numbers are very identical to the WAC schools of 1986 to 1998. There was always one, maybe two teams who could put a decent D on the field, the rest just had to Shoot it out. Hence why you saw many scores against conference opponents over the years like (only using Wyo scores) WYO over SDS 52-51, WYO over AF 48-45, WYO over (horrid) CSU team 56-35, Loss to Utah 42-57, Loss to BYU 31-56, loss to AF 28-42. Some of the best games we had were against SDS, on top of the score above: W 43-38, W 52-35, W 34-31, L 24-28. And some of these SDSU teams weren't any good.
How about non conf games: Some against not so goo teams: WSU L 28-42, OKST L 29-35, Ark. St.(1-AA) W 34-27, TTU L 32-49, UNI (1AA) W 45-42, Org. st. L 31-44, NEB L 32-42, Tuls L 6-35, Idaho (1AA) W 40-38, ISU W 41-38, WMU W 42-28, NEV (1AA) W34-30.
The point of it all is, everyone seems to think we are dead in the water with no D, yet we won lot's of games in Shootouts. They weren't pretty, but we took them and it gave us some good team in the 80's and 90's I won't be counting out this years team.
Last year we lost to USU63-19 and everyone called off the dogs, and WYO turned it around and we had our best year since 98! I'm gonna sit back and watch it all play out, cause even if we lose, we will probably see some really exciting games. Losing to NEV in two weeks will not break this season. Even if we give up a lot of points. We still have a GOOD shot at bowl eligibility.

Are you crazy? How dare you say something somewhat positive and not negative about our team on this website?
That's just crazy thinking that wyoming has a chance at another win this season.

But seriously, I agree with everything you said. Our D isn't great, or good, but if we can get some key turnovers, we can win any one of our games left. Especially with brett smith.
It's amazing that so many people are so willing to write us off, AFTER a WIN and when brett smith is our quarterback.
We will never be out of a game BEFORE it starts ESPECIALLY when bsmith is playing QB

If our o-line could, if NOTHING else, at least improve in their pass potection, I would feel much more confident about shootouts.

They looked awful yesterday. The Vandals front 7 is a joke, but they still had their way with the O-Line. Smith will be taking a lot of shots this year. He took some big ones in Moscow, even on his TDs.

I'm not going to fully blame the O-Line in this one. because if you watched the game or even watch the highlights, when Smith gets hit he's getting hit by the RB's defender. Like the 80 yard TD to McNeill, that was Wick (I believe) who lost the out side block that got Smith from the blindside. And then when we did roll out they were sending in LB's from everywhere. Those 5 guys up front can't block 7 or more. The RB's need to hold on to their blocks better.
