These articles always confuse me.

Why is he discussing NIL deals with the school? The school can't increase his NIL pay. They can only pay him through profit sharing. If he wants more NIL money, he needs to be approaching businesses/donors/boosters, not the school.

It's just a sloppy article. It wasn't careful on who is negotiating with whom. On the other hand, it dispenses with the pretext that there is some wall between a school and its big donor/NIL consortium...Volunteer Riches!, or whatever the hell they might call it...and the school. So, why not just call it "Tennessee"? Saves space.

They really need a new model. I almost wonder if football will completely dissociate from the universities then the universities lease out the facilities, name, logos, etc. to their affiliated team. The teams are owned by equity firms, owners, or whatever. Players, coaches, refs, etc are all under collective bargaining. Would the average fan care that the team isn't technically owned by their university and the players aren't students? I would, but I don't know if most would care as long as they had their team.

Remember the UNLV qb who said an assistant coach promised him a certain amount of NIL? I don't believe for one minute that these collectives aren't back door funded and controlled by the university. Do you really believe that NIL offers and deals are made without the school's knowledge? I sure don't.

If I were a kid I’d start with the coaches. It’s the entitled mentally, pay me or I’ll walk. Why not leverage the coaching and athletic depts.

We should all be realists when it comes to NIL, the money is supposed to be for use of the name, image and likeness of the player not his or her play in their sport. The Cavender twins are a little above average basketball players but were good looking enough to be models so they got paid as models. The Tennessee QB is no model, he wants to paid for his play like a professional. NIL as it is used now is basically making college sports into the minor leagues for professional sports.
It is no surprise then when a players sits out for a better deal or starts complaining about their contract.
