4-2 BUT Who have we beaten?

Well-known member
D1AA Weber State(3-3) @ home 29-22.

UNLV (2-4) @ home 30-27

FAU (0-4) away 30-28

New Mexico (0-6) @ home 37-13

The overall record of the D1 opponents that we've beaten is 2-14.
The remaining record of our D1 opponents is 22-12. Much better than 2-14. The fact is we really don't know a whole lot about our team until they actually BEAT SOMEBODY! Squeaking by (0-4) Fau, (2-4) UNLV and D1AA Weber State by a combined 12 points does not get me as excited as some of you seem to be. Combined with the Shutout loss at Winless Colorado....... Atleast we made sure Colorado will win 1 game this year. In Shutout fashion no less.

Upcoming opponents
@ air force (3-3) slight advantage usafa/tossup
@utah (4-1) fair advantage utah
vs byu (5-1) slight advantage byu
@ sdsu (2-4) slight advantage uw
vs tcu (5-0) fair advantage tcu
@ csu (3-3) tossup

The point is don't get a false sense of security regarding this team. We've squeaked by some winless and bad teams. It's not all that farfetched that we could finish the year 1-5 and end up 5-7.
So get your popcorn ready, we'll find out real quick if this team is any good. There are no more D1AA East Popcorn State's on our schedule. :twocents:

I think this is a fair enough point, but I think the team's displayed that they're steadily improving, which definitely is a good sign. If they keep steadily improving and learning something even from the tough losses that we're almost guaranteed to face in the next few weeks, we should still be able to grab at least 1 to 2 more wins, possibly even more.
Utah hasn't looked THAT impressive, CSU seems to fall apart once they face trouble, SDSU is decent, but no more, and Air Force's offense doesn't look good in the least anymore. Add some REALLY cold weather to the TCU game, and we COULD squeak out a huge upset. Max Hall has been prone to interceptions, but I think BYU is likely pretty solid - we're not going to surprise them with altitude and weather, that's for sure.

So... anything CAN happen, but I agree we shouldn't expect TOO much out of this season, or we'll likely be disappointed. I will be VERY excited if we can win 2 more games and get bowl eligible, though.

Agree 100%.... all of the remaining games are winnable, but all of them are losable as well. My guess is we'll get an upset of byu utah or tcu.... None of them are unbeatable by any means. Hopefully we win 2 of 3 between afa, csu, sdsu. We just really don't know yet... 5-7 or 8-4 ?

I'm not sure I got the point of that post - in all fairness, the OP made a good point. Nobody can say we've beaten any solid teams so far. The only comparisons we have is that CSU almost choked on Weber State and that Air Force managed an identical score with with New Mexico, albeit on the road.

I look at it like this...

I am a UW fan...through and through, and have an enormous amount of pride in the team and my state. I don't give a ratz azz who we have beaten, or who we have lost to, to get to 4 & 2...but damnit, it is 4 & 2! The team has confidence, our coaching has been much better than the past 10 years (plus), the offense is scoring touchdowns, the defense is making stops and getting turnovers, etc., etc., etc.

The laughs came, as a product of knowing that the "sky is falling" negative post from EPS was coming...that is all. ;)

They have beaten the teams they were supposed to beat. They have shown improvement in every game they have played. They are in the first year of a new system with a new coach. If they keep improving every week and stay mentally tough I could see up to 3 or 4 more wins.

please mcpeachy..... if you can't handle facts
then............

:grenade:

Facts, as in how you point things out, are just statistics. And the only statistic that means shit is the one in the season / record column. How we got to 4 & 2, and who we beat, and what their record is, and what conference they are in, doesn't matter to me. It is still 4 & 2. We were not supposed to beat FAU. We were not supposed to beat UNLV. We were not supposed to beat even NM just 2 weeks ago. And now...we are not supposed to beat anyone else...the rest of the season? LMAO.

Like last years' banter with you regarding the basketball team & record, which I will remind you...I took the positive road, you the negative...and we split the standings...I will take the positive side with the football team this season, and say we finish in a bowl game this season. You?

The Air Force game will tell me a lot about how much this team has really improved since week 1. I was really encouraged by the UNLV win, as I thought UNLV had made the move to be a top half team in the MWC. Then they got owned by Nevada and BYU, and I'm not so sure anymore. Winning on the road was a big step though, even against a 0-4 team. FAU is better than their record indicates. They had more athleticism than we did and we still beat them in their own backyard after traveling 2000 miles. Thats certainly a sign of a growing team. Let's not forget that ACS was not leading the team for the first 3 games, including that dreadful showing against CU. Could it be that he just happened to grab the starting job and face 3 average to below average teams that made him look better than he really is? Yes, but I think the kid has something. The first time I watched film on the kid I knew we were in for something special.

Air Force's defense is no slouch. This will be a real test for our offense to see if we can continue to move the ball on a consistent basis. Their offense might not be quite as explosive as past years, but it still is option football at its finest. One blown assingment is all it takes for a long run to bust open. It really is an offense that wears the defense down until someone takes a bad angle. Then its off to the races. I still worry about our defenses propensity to give up big plays. Let's see if we can put two halves of solid assignment football together on defense. If not, we are going to be in trouble.

Well, to answer the question... we've been victorious in both games that we were picked to win, and in two games that we were picked to lose.

What does that mean from here on out? We have 6 games left to play, only one of which we are picked to win. If we win that one, we are 5-7, 2 wins more than we are picked this season. Sitting home for the post season. Is that acceptable. Heck NO!

This team is definitely capable of wins at SDSU, CSU and AFA. An upset of Utah is a possibility and upsets of BYU or TCU are of course possible but the Pokes will have to play nearly perfect football.

answer me the is EPS... Would a Joe Glenn team be 4-2 right now? I would say no... Last years team would have found a way to lose both UNLV and FAU. So I'm very happy with 4-2 despite who we have beaten.

I don't think his point was to say that we shouldn't be happy about 4-2, just that we shouldn't be too disappointed if we don't get a bowl game.

I expected 2-3 wins out of Cowboys this season, so I'm very excited that they already have 4. I think they CAN get 7, especially if they win Saturday.

If they DO win Saturday, anything is possible. I honestly think that's going to be one of the toughest games because the jump in quality of the team they're facing is huge.

This guy is a joke. He just gets a kick out of twisting things as negative as possible. Not worth a response.

While East Popcorn does point out things that we all know about UW's opponents...the fact is every thread he starts is with a negative slant of the cowboys (not just football either). I see a lot of similarity between Popcorn's and St. Clair's writing style. Just an observation.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The negativity, on almost every post, has me wondering about the correlation.

:o Didn't make the connection until you said this. Makes one wonder...
