June Jones seems to be doing a fine job trying to turn the culture of SMU around, I hope he succeeds. Any scuttlebutt on SMU to MWC over on PonyFans?

Pony Excess re-airs on espn2 10pm central time tonight, 12-12-10.

Alyssa, I watched it last night and it sure does stir up old memories.

I like how it shows the people who did not know what was happening how dirty so many programs were but how and why SMU got targeted so hard.

I also think that the repeat violators rule in place should be used against all those who have qualified for it. USC qualified for it this year.
I saw elsewhere that is appears that SMU died for every cheating program's sins.

It was in my top 3 of this series. The "U", The best that never was, and Pony excess are all excellent. ESPN did a really great job with these.

Every 30 for 30 has been excellent. I think the first one was "King's Ransom" about Wayne Gretzky's departure to LA. Pony Excess was excellent. I didn't know Craig James was that badass!! I too thought it was funny that somehow the NCAA didn't get Texas, but instead you heard they nailed TCU and Baylor for violations. Weird considering A&M bought Dickerson's Trans Am. Seems like Texas has had the NCAA in their pocket for a long time. That's where SMU went wrong, they forgot to pay the cronies at the NCAA! If they were so worried about money ruining college athletics, you would think they would destroy the BCS.

And there is the root of the problem! :brick:

i recorded this one and can't wait to watch it after i saw the best that never was, they've done very well on these docs

makes you wonder how a B-14 espn doc would come out

Interesting. SMU would be an interesting team to bring into the MWC, even though they're in Dallas and travel wouldn't be much fun. Think June Jones will be at SMU for the long haul?

what I found interesting was the quasi-attempt at rationalizing why the death penalty hasn't been used since SMU. considering how it completley killed a program (1 winning season since I think), they said the NCAA was afraid to use it again. they expected it would only set them back a couple years... more like a couple decades. it seems the NCAA has figured out how to make an A-bomb, dropped it on hiroshima, and now won't use it again. not sure why SMU was targeted solely, since it was (and still is) going on at virtually every 1-a school.

also, sorry to be the ignorant one, but could someone please explain to me what exactly the black-14 was about and what happened?

A mormon guy out at work said the reason LDS used to be so racist was the fact they believed that 'being black' was the mark God put on them for some bad reason or another. Don't remember quite everything, sorry. It's funny that UW used the whole 'you can't protest someone's freedom of religion' at the same time they are restricting freedom of speech. It was the 60's and believe it or not, there were a lot more racist white folk running around. Plus, half those dudes were probably mormon (sometimes mormon tail is the only tail around, ie, my family in Idaho Falls) It's a shame that it happened. It happened before I was born. It would make a good 30 for 30.

unfortunately if the school would've let them wear the bands, as far as i understand, they would've been subject to punishment from the WAC
