#25 Wyoming at Fresno

I just hope the CBS Sports Network analysts are correct. They were REALLY high on Wyoming last night after the UNLV-SDSU game. They were analyzing the MW, and stated that UW looked to be the best team in the conference. Not even so much of a mention that SDSU had just beat us at home. They commented on our experience, fundamentals, and the leadership of Nance. They went on to say, and I quote, "Larry Nance Jr. One of the best players in the country, that nobody is talking about." I shouted out a 'hell yeah" and gave a violent fist pump in the air. The analysts love us apparently. Maybe we should have more faith. It's not easy being a Wyoming fan, but if the sports analysts think we are the cream of the crop in the MW, we just might be....Go Pokes!!

I missed that...thanks for the comments.

Pokes have a very winnable next five games, but they've got to take things one game at a time. The margin for error is not that large. This team deserves a nice crowd for the UNM game next Saturday. Show some damn support.

At least our loss to SDSU was not a terrible one, as they were recieving votes, very tough defense, etc. But margin for error going forward is very slim.

Soooo happy to be 16-3! Heading into this game I was very skeptical that we could win it, and to do it in the fashion that we did is pretty awesome. It takes a lot of guts to win a triple OT game on the road. Now I really feel like we're going to be tourney bound, but with our team nothing will be easy. Cardiac Cowboys the whole season long I'm afraid. Makes tuning into every game exciting though!

Pokes take next 5, with two of them very close. But this occurs only if the TO problem is solved. How is this solved? By not telegraphing the passes, for one thing - crisper, quicker release of the ball. And change up the ball rotation slightly for every game - give the opponent a slightly different look. You listening Larry? No charge, of course.

Yeah I kinda hope no Larry from Wyoming reads these boards with much thought or at all for that matter.

A few thoughts about Fresno:

First of all that was a great win. Very proud of our guys. I think I'll always remember that game.

Fresno seems to have the same problem we do with seating. For most of the game it looked like there were about 500 fans there. All of the seats close to the court, or at least the one in the view of the camera were darn empty. But there were 8k+ there! Not a bad crowd at all.

Their arena looks pretty nice. And freaking huge.

Fresno will be dang good next year and the year after. They will still have Harris, Cesar, Lewis and Watson who are all Jrs. or Sophs. Yikes.

I really like our chances vs. New Mexico. They have to play two games before we play them on Sat. Papa Shy will have us ready!

I agree. The Lobos play BSU today, go to Vegas to play UNLV on Wednesday, then to Laramie for the Pokes. I think they will be a little worn down, and the Pokes have a week to prepare. I think the Cowboys take care of business Saturday.

So I re-watched this game basically from the beginning of teh second half through that fiasco known as OT³

First half we were solid, and we were mainly in control 4 TO's it wasn't a bad first half but something dreadful happened in the second half that reminded me of kids at the playground and not college basketball players.

In no specific order things that can and will cost us games.

Herndon playing timid, It's like just man up already these slow lazy lob passes have to stop.

Hankerson & Cooke being on the floor at the end of the game when we have a lead and we know we are going to be fouled. I love both of these guys but Cooke is shooting better from the charity stripe and they are both sub par at it. Neither should be out there to be fouled we need all 75%+ people on the floor ( and that doesn't guarantee a win but sure makes them easier to come by )

Mental Mistakes are always going to be there and I have nothing but respect for everyone capable of suiting up and playing at this level but some mental mistakes are very costly and we suffer from them more in the second half of games.

4 TO's in the first half 10 in the second half and 3 during all three OT periods. We should have had 10 total at most. Problem is it's hard to place blame anywhere specific. Second half adjustments by coaches can change that. Adams playing more aggressive and looking for more dangerous passes inside. He is the assist leader and I accept he is going to have more TO's being the assist leader.

I think as long as Adams keeps putting up the points he has per game we will be fine the turnovers by people with more TO's then assists are the people we need to be worried about.

I re-watched the game too, my thought are using Gorski off the bench to nail shots is a plus. Especially since Riley can't find the range on his shot for some time now. The zone causes some conflicts with D rebounding, I think we need to face up the taller and more athletic players and screen that way until we find ways to cordone off big necessary rebounds. 2nd shots were not as severe from Fresno as they were with SDSU, we really struggled to find ways to secure rebounds in that game. I don't think we have problems with many teams on that angle, excluding maybe NM and UNLV. Sole possession of 1st place is huge, lets take care of business at home and get some crowd for the NM game. I liked the novelty of Fresno with the marketing of I_Pad giveaway for the 8,0000 fans that showed, do you think Burman and his abysmall marketing team took note? Dude, wake up and use some intelligence to get our fan base interested and this could be a fun run. Hopefully Shyatt noticed.

Damn there were 8000 there? Looked like 4000 or so on TV. That is one difference 4000 in the AA looks like far more now that the AA has been redone. Fresno looked like a ghost town I would have thought they had a blizzard and no one could travel as vacant as that place looked.
