21st recruit

kdwrightuwyo

Well-known member
From GoWyoGo:

Austin Traphagan, a 6-foot-6 and 280 pound offensive linemen from Yuma, Colorado. A good looking frame who can obviously add a lot of size.

Austin is the 21st commitment for the Cowboys and the third offensive linemen to commit.

about time we recruit colorado ;) ;) ;)

cool, only 4 to go. I would still like to land some stud dlinemen, that and kickers seem to be the only thing missing in this class.

Not as much info out there about this guy as I would like, but we'll go with this:

Class A

Player of the Year: Matt Brown, Limon, Sr.

Players in the smaller schools have to be versatile, and no player in the state did more for his team than Brown. State coaches noticed, too, selecting him as both the top quarterback and linebacker in the classification. He was one of the state’s better punters, too. At 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, Brown certainly was a physical presence on both offense and defense. He led the Badgers to the state semifinals, passing for 1,435 yards and 16 TDs, while rushing for 1,018 yards and 20 scores. Defensively, he collected 79 tackles and five interceptions. Brown averaged nearly 41 yards per punt and also returned punts and kickoffs for Limon.

Honorable mention: QB Casey Gillenwater, Paonia, Jr.; LB Kendall Monasmith, Akron, Sr.; RB/DB Joel Rhoades, Yuma, Sr.; QB/DB Ryan Spor, Hotchkiss, Jr.; OL/DL Austin Traphagan, Yuma, Jr.; RB/DB Jake Van, Rye, Sr.; QB/DB Mitch Wills, Yuma, Sr.

I like the idea of recruiting a k/p, redshirt him and then he can take over for McCoy and possibly be a long field goal kicker 40+ yards because lets be honest Watts is money from close range but he doesn't have much of a long game

"It's more than just kicking field goals," Vincent said. "He also kicks eight out of nine kickoffs into the end zone. That makes it real nice for the defense, giving the other teams a long field all the time."

Come to Laramie, and I'll buy you a car bomb on Saint Patty's as soon as you turn 21... :thumb:

Man, I hope we sign this guy....

If he is kicking them into the end zone at sea level, just wait till he gets to 7200 ft.

Sullivan's uncle won the Heisman Trophy, so there's a serious football bloodline there ; )

Watts was 2 for 3 on field goals over 44 yards this season and he had the highest made average in the Mountain West. That's a pretty good long game for college, just not a lot of chances.

There is reason for not many chances when our HC says his range is 45 yards and doesn't even feel confortable at that. If you have ever watched his kicking game he has to put everything he has to even get it there. I have seen him put it 10 yards short on a 40 yarder before. It is like one of us teeing off against Tiger Woods, we might get it into the fairway while he driving the green in one. We need someone that can kick a 50+ when we need him to. Watts is great from short distances. Bama has two kickers one for long kicks and one from short distances. I think we need that right now.

I do watch the Cowboys kicking game, being an ex-kicker myself, but usually on TV not up in Laramie. Watts has only five misses the past two seasons. Two were blocked and the other three were all wide left, but had the distance. I haven't seen too many practices or scrimmages so I can't comment on kicks coming up short as I haven't seen any. As long as the new kid gets used to the speed of the game and the narrow goal posts in college, maybe we could use a two kicker system as well.

Before you promise too many free drinks remember that these kick offs are off a 2" tee, a TB is only 60 yards in high school and you are not allowed to return them. I just watched the highlights video and none of the kick offs went out of the end zone which would be a college touch back. Also in his non-game field goals I noticed the sound was very windy which made me notice that the flags were blowing like crazy in the direction he was kicking the ball. I don't blame him as you have to send a sexy video to get noticed. Plus in Laramie he will have the wind, it just depends on which way it's blowing. If it's behind him he just might have a record breaking field goal!

Looks like Sullivan is more interested in staying close to home at Washington if offered. Their kicker is pretty good, but a junior, so he could red shirt and start 4 years. Have we offered any other kickers?
