Behind Enemy Lines:

Kragthorpe: Utah State getting dimishing returns in Mountain West football (Salt Lake Tribune)

Wyoming (6-2), USU's opponent Saturday in Laramie, is doing what the Aggies used to do. "You see those guys over there playing with a lot of confidence and mojo, and you get that from winning," said USU center Austin Stephens.

The Cowboys are making plays in pivotal moments. USU is not doing so consistently — not in the second quarter against San Diego State, which gradually pulled away, and not in the fourth quarter of losses to Air Force and Colorado State.

COLUMN: Bohl, Wyoming were a perfect ‘chance’ combination (WyoSports.net)

When asked if he gets the chance to enjoy victories — especially after last season — the Wyoming coach said this: “One thing that’s a benefit is going through some challenging times. The last place I was at, you just won every Saturday. I’ve probably enjoyed this football team more than most teams I’ve ever coached because you see the progress.”

“I believe that we can return Cowboy football back to having national prominence,” Bohl said.

STORY: Normally quiet Hall enjoys attention from safety dance (WyoSports.net)

“It was completely reactionary,” Hall said Monday.

“I’m usually pretty quiet around here. I don’t draw too much attention to myself. But it was how I reacted in the moment.”

Hall’s dance was caught on film and was all over Twitter and Facebook after the game. The UW women’s soccer team imitated Hall’s dance at Denver International Airport on Sunday before they departed for the Mountain West Tournament in San Diego.

Denver Post: Wyoming Cowboys football sees resurgence under Craig Bohl

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Wyoming coach Craig Bohl learned how to build a football program from one of the best — Hall of Fame coach Tom Osborne.

“There’s a lot of things that go into it, but if you have a plan and if you work the plan, the plan works,” Bohl said after Wyoming upset No. 13 Boise State 30-28 on Saturday.

“By no means am I saying we’ve arrived, but it has changed how our players see themselves,” Bohl said Monday. “To a certain degree I think it certainly changed how we’re viewed nationally and it gives a real shot in the arm for our program.”

Don't know about these rankings (especially Boise and SDSU), but the WYO comments are good.

CBSSports.com: Fornelli 50 rankings: Clemson may be a top team, but it can't crack the top 5

Ranking the best teams in the country based on nothing but their performances in 2016

49. Wyoming 6-2 (NR): When Wyoming hired Craig Bohl after the 2013 season, I thought it was not only an interesting move, but a strong hire for the program. There's never any way to know if a coach will be a sure-fire success at any school, particularly when you're hiring a guy from a lower level like the FCS, but there are always signs you can look to.

.......Then it all culminated in North Dakota State becoming a damn powerhouse. The Bison are the FCS' Alabama, and they won three straight national titles before Bohl left to take the Wyoming gig.

Things like that don't happen by accident, and I knew that when Wyoming hired Bohl, it was only a matter of time before the Cowboys became a thing in the Mountain West.

After watching them beat Boise State on Saturday night, I believe that time has come.

USU football: Aggies must fix holes in defense vs. the run (Salt Lake Tribune)

Counting two New Mexico players, USU will face five more of the country's top-25 runners in November, beginning with Wyoming's Brian Hill (No. 3) on Saturday night in Laramie.

"It's exciting, as a defense," said USU linebacker Brock Carmen. "We want the challenge every week. That's something we can step up to, and we can prove a point. … We're definitely excited to try to redeem ourselves against the run this week."

Forde-Yard Dash

COACH WHO EARNED HIS COMP CAR THIS WEEK

Craig Bohl (37), Wyoming. The Dash called the Cowboys’ 30-28 upset of Boise State last week, missing the actual pick by a point (31-28). But even if at least one of us saw it coming, this was a milestone victory in Bohl’s rebuilding job in Laramie. His move from perennial FCS powerhouse North Dakota State to Wyoming has not been without difficulty – the Pokes were 2-10 last year, his second season – but the corner appears to be turned now. Wyoming is 6-2, on a four-game winning streak and in control of its own destiny in the Mountain West Mountain Division. Oh, and the Cowboys are now bowl eligible.

No. 3?
He's No. 3 in the country in yards per game. D'Onta Foreman of Texas has 51 fewer yards in only 7 games.

I have seen very few Cowboy wins in War Memorial as big as that one, especially given where the program has been. The national attention it garnered was amazing, made even greater by the world of social media. (Safety Dance is one example). It was fun, it was exciting, and it was a huge memory.

There are outstanding leaders and playmakers within every unit of this team. Thanks to a special resolve, and that leadership, these Cowboys are producing a magical year. They have bought into the mentality that they must be focused on going 1-0 each week. They are confident, steadfast, and they rarely lose their poise. They believe in the system, and they believe in each other.

STORY: Wyoming tackle Jolly more than held his own against Boise State (WyoSports.net)

“(Jolly) played solid. There were no mental mistakes. I thought he did a decent job in pass protection and in the run game,” UW offensive line coach Scott Fuchs said. “There were a couple of long runs by (UW junior running back Brian Hill) that he helped spring.

"I wasn’t nervous, and nothing really changed for me in terms of preparation last week,” Jolly said. “I had been working with the guys all this time, and when (Cummings) got hurt, the rest of the team welcomed me in and encouraged me.

More national recognition. Look who's #1:

Washington Post: The Other College Football Top 25: Everything’s out of control (in Wyoming, not the rankings)

1. CHASE APPLEBY AND THE SAFETY DANCE. And after the coolest game-winning anything, Appleby’s game-winning safety for Wyoming with 85 seconds left in a 28-28 tie for the huge win against Boise State, teammate and defensive end Josiah Hall did his safety dance, another wondrous, delirious signal that college football is the sport with the most possibilities. The NFL probably would have fined him a week of meals.
