2016 recruiting thread....

Does anyone else fear Jeremy Shyatt gets a little close to the NCAA line in some of his tweets? His most recent one said:

I didn't think coaches were allowed to comment publicly on unsigned recruits, but this seems to identify one fairly specifically.

By the way, anyone know who he's referring to?

If I had to wager a million dollars on who he is referring to I would say it is almost without a doubt Bryce Peters. The reason I am guessing that is because Bryce Peters liked Jeremy's tweet. I seriously doubt he would like the tweet if it wasn't him. So I can almost guarantee it is him. Be awesome to pick up Bryce Peters.

Not only that if you go and look at Bryce Peters twitter he re-tweeted that exact tweet and also re-tweeted the tweet from Jeremy Shyatt about "Wheels Up to Las Vegas to watch one of our favorite future Pokes!! The last trip there wasn't too bad at all!"

I am saying Bryce is probably going to commit to Wyoming.

Can you imagine an Austin Conway, Justin James and Bryce Peters threesome on the court bringing the ball up and on the wings? I'm thinking that would look really nice.

As long as the recruit isn't mentioned by name, there's nothing the NCAA can do.

We've been on Bryce for quite a while and he's had nothing but love for Wyoming. I think he'll end up a Cowboy. He has big shoes to fill with Adams. Josh has more street cred than the rest of the league combined. ;)

Bryce Peters! Come to Wyo and win multiple MWC championships and write your name in Wyoming history with Conway, James, Moemka and Naughton. The future is bright in Laramie

Well now Bryce Peters is posting on his twitter that he received an offer from San Jose St. University. So maybe he won't commit to Wyoming. Not saying he would pick SJSU over Wyoming but it seems maybe he just likes to promote himself and whoever offers him at that point in time.

Then he is one hell of a promoter since he dropped 32 on the AAU circuit with a Wyoming shirt on and gives us mad love on twitter. :)

Jeremy Shyatt tweeted about the shirt and Bryce Peters re-tweets everything of Jeremy Shyatts.

Interesting indeed... ;)

Another angle on Peters is he is former Wyoming Cowboy Jeron Roberts' nephew. Roberts played for Shyatt during his first stint in Laramie.

Serious? I had no idea. Thats an awesome angle that could really benefit Shyatt. That would be a really cool story as well. Then there is also the icing on the cake that the kid can straight up ball.

I think this would be a good time to review the players that appear to be our top targets in 2016:

1. Bryce Peters - 6'2" 180 SG, LaVerne, CA (Damien HS) - 3 star recruit with offers from Pepperdine, ASU, SJSU, Wyoming, and UTEP with many others likely on the way. AAU Teammate of 2015 signee Jordan Naughton. HS Teammate of SDSU 2015 signee Jeremy Helmsley. His HS team was the California State Division 3 Champs this past year. Known for his ability to get to the rim.

2. Dontay Bassett - 6'9" 205 PF, San Leandro, CA (Oldsmar Christian Prep - Oldsmar, FL) - 3-star recruit with a really long offer list. Notable offers include Boise State (just offered), Fresno State (just offered), Murray State, Wyoming, and Tulsa. HS teammate of 2015 Wyoming signees Justin James and Andrew Moemeka. Excellent rebounder, still developing offensively.

3. Alpha Diallo - 6'6" 195 SF, Denver, CO (Denver West HS) - 3-star recruit with offers currently listed from Wyoming and Manhattan but expect his recruitment to blow up now on the AAU circuit. Due to CHSAA transfer rules he didn't play in HS this past year after transferring from Abraham Lincoln HS to Denver West (or maybe vice versa, can't remember), but he has played very well for the Colorado Hawks on the AAU circuit alongside Deron Davis a Top 50 player and former teammate of Austin Conway. Big time length and athleticism on the wing. Still developing a perimeter shot but big time finisher at the rim.

4. Yoeli Childs - 6'7" 220 PF, South Jordan, UT (Bingham HS) - 3-star recruit with offers from Wyoming, ASU, USU, and Boise State with more certain to come. Plays on same AAU team (Utah Prospects) as top 2017 target Hunter Thompson.

5. Austin Mueller, 6'6" 190 SF/PF, Highlands Ranch, CO (Thunderridge HS) - Late bloomer with offers from Weber State and Wyoming.

I really like the players we are in the mix for in 2016.

Its fun to speculate on the roster.

I think the guys we currently have are going to be multiple MW title winners and regular NCAA tourney participants. Thats the next step for the program and I'm confident were already there.

The 16/17 classes can take us to the next "next step": tourney success and deep runs in the dance. I love our chances with Peters. He would fit perfectly between Conway and James. The coaching staff has made it abundantly clear that they are looking for a stretch 4. If we can pair a dominant 4 with Peters, the sky is the limit for Wyo.

The 17 class is Hunter. If we continue to improve and the excitement around the state continues to grow its going to be hard for Hunter to leave and he is a stretch 4.

These next two classes have a chance to move Wyoming into the elite eight conversation.

Is Mueller the second (third if you count De'Ron Davis) best player in Colorado behind Diallo in the 2016 class? It seemed there was a whole lot of talent in the 2016 Colorado class.

+1

Does anyone know the scoop on Barnes? He's a physical specimen, but I haven't heard anyone talk about his upside/potential/future.
