I think this is a nice pick-up. I understand jvk's McManamen comparison but I think Mueller has a couple of things going for him. To me, he has a much more compact/quick perimeter motion than JMac had coming out of HS (it looks better now) and he seems comfortable getting into it quickly off the dribble. He is also taller than McManamen and appears stronger than JMac was in HS (although I would say JMac had better HS dunks, which foreshadowed the "White Man's Revenge" against FAMU).
Also, he really saw his recruitment pick up speed this spring. He had some minor injuries last summer according to his player development coach and this spring he has been seeing an increase in his recruitment. The offers are not high level (AFA, Northeastern, Cornell, Weber State, etc.) and that is concerning, but it appears to be picking up and maybe we got him at the right time.
The only concern would be that with McManamen and Gorski already on the roster, we would seem to have a lot of players in that mold. Obviously McManamen will be a Senior when Mueller is a Freshman so it probably doesn't matter too much.
I think we still need some perimeter playmaking in the 2016 class (Bryce Peters would be just fine) and some size up front. I am sure we will sign one more with the expectation of some attrition, but it will be interesting to see if it is a guard or a big. It might just depend on which of our targets we are able to land.
I would say the ship has sailed now on Diallo (wing slot filled) and Childs (Utah kid, BYU offered so...). Bassett and Peters would seem to still be in play.
