“At the end of the day it’s process of this team growing,” Edwards said. “Sometimes you have to go through (those struggles) to grow. This is a team that hasn’t been put in those situations enough. Last year’s team relied heavily on (senior guard Josh Adams). Now, guys are playing bigger roles and we are telling them to be more assertive and aggressive. There’s growth to be done, but at some point we have to get over that hump.”

Wyoming Cowboys hoping for better finishing kick against UNLV (LV Review-Journal)

“What I’ve always said is we’re going through the process right now, and we’re still learning how to finish basketball games,” Edwards said. “So, in essence to me, I think we’re in a really good position with so many conference games left and obviously the tournament to where when we do turn that corner, I think we can be a dangerous basketball team in this conference.”

Rebels searching for 3-point range at Wyoming (Las Vegas Sun)

Poor outside shooting isn’t the most pressing issue facing the Rebels right now — playmaking, finishing at the rim, perimeter defense, recruiting and many other big-picture affairs take a front seat in Marvin Menzies’ rebuilding effort — but it’s time to recognize that 3-point shooting is more important now than it has ever been in college basketball. And while the rest of the country is ringing up triples at a record rate, UNLV is still struggling to find the range.

Breaking down tonight’s UNLV Rebels-Wyoming game (LV Review-Journal)

FRONTCOURT

The Cowboys are first in the Mountain West in rebounding, averaging 39.8. Starter Alan Herndon (10.3 points, 6.2 rebounds) and reserve Hayden Dalton (13.1, 8.6) will be a tough challenge for the Rebels. Cheickna Dembele has blocked 13 shots in his past five games, and he will need to continue to protect the rim for UNLV. Teammate Christian Jones has scored in double figures in three of his past four games.

Edge: Wyoming

Cowboys’ leading scorers relish coming off bench

Its paid content now but there are still ways to read it if you know how.

Brings up the discussions we have had here. Seems JJ and Dalton enjoy coming off the bench. Makes some good points all around. Edwards reasoning for the starting 5 is what I figured was his thought process especially concerning understanding defensive principles.

Rebels come up short at Wyoming, 66-65 (LV Review-Journal)

UNLV coach Marvin Menzies said Mooring was supposed to drive to the rim and at least draw a foul, but Mooring said he pulled up because Wyoming defender Justin James backed off and took away the drive.

“Then he should’ve took a shot, but maybe a regular 3,” Menzies said. “But he’s made those shots. I felt like he was in a dead sprint, but if his guy backed off of him, he’s a basketball player. He’s got to make those plays, and it’s his call.”

Mooring misses at buzzer, Rebels fall at Wyoming (Las Vegas Sun)

If you had told Marvin Menzies at halftime — when his listless Rebels were trailing Wyoming by 18 points — that UNLV would have a chance to win Wednesday’s game on a Jovan Mooring 3-pointer at the buzzer, the coach may have been inclined to live or die with that scenario, especially considering the way Mooring’s heroics helped the Rebels to a double-overtime triumph over Air Force four days ago.

The local vibe says Boise is pretty deflated after getting destroyed by Nevada last night. I was at the game, it wasn't even close. I'm hoping Boise plays uninspired and down on themselves on Saturday while Wyoming comes out super motivated to start AND finish the game like how the UNLV game started. But this year has been so unpredictable that the complete opposite may actually happen lol

I go occasionally, this was the 4th game this season. For football I only go if Wyoming is in town

Students need to be at the AA in force. Slap Boise back to the WAC.

“Another thing Jeremy has done is getting better looks in terms of his shooting,” Edwards said. “Early on, he was trying to prove he was just as good a shooter as anybody else on team. Now he’s more of a point guard, and if a if shot presents it he’ll take it. That’s been a positive, along with his energy.”

Despite losses, and now a long road trip, Boise State basketball remains confident (Idaho Statesman)

First up are the Cowboys in Laramie, Wyo.

Wyoming is an anomaly on several statistical fronts. The Cowboys feature the second highest scoring offense in the conference (77.5 points per game) while shooting the second lowest field-goal percentage (42.3). Defensively, Wyoming has the ninth scoring defense (73.4), but the second best field-goal percentage defense (39.6).

“It’s always tough to play down there,” Hutchison said. “They’re very good at what they do.”
