“I don’t get caught up, and I’ve told the guys not to get caught up, about who starts,” Edwards said. “With a guy like Justin, he brings a different aspect in terms of athleticism and speed.

“Depending on the game and matchups, we may go with more of that or have a combination of that to go along with skill and shooting.”

So far, James has shown flashes of both. He’s shooting 51.5 percent from the field.

Wyoming comes up short at Pacific (WyoSports.net)

Not enough made shots and too many committed fouls.

That summed up the game for the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team in a 73-65 loss to Pacific Tuesday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, California.

UW suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 3-1 on the season. Pacific improved to 2-2.

Wyoming men's basketball looks to find shot in game Friday at California (trib.com)

“They’re a little bit like what we just faced (at Pacific), with how hard they’re going to play, how aggressive they’re going to play,” Edwards said of California. “And then just getting the kid (Ivan) Rabb back just adds to what they’ve done so far. … It’s a Pac-12 team at their place on the road. Different than last night against Pacific, you’ve got to go on and — not have a perfect game, but you’ve got to go on the road and be able to defend like I thought we defended last night and then walk away with shots being made for us.”

Getting to the line working well for McManamen (WyoSports.net)

“With his ability to shoot the ball and the attention he gets, you have to be able to utilize the shot-fake and put the ball on the floor,” Edwards said. “The way the rules have changed in terms of hand-checking, it can be difficult to close out on him hard and still be able to keep him from putting the ball on the floor without hand-checking.

“He has been good for us. He didn’t do so well (Tuesday), but he brings so many dynamics to the game.”

Wyoming falls on the road to Cal (WyoSports.net)

LARAMIE – Justin James put together the best game of his young University of Wyoming career Friday against California.

Too bad nobody else decided to join him.

The sophomore guard scored a career-high 28 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field – including 3 of 4 3-pointers and 7 of 9 free throws – but no other Cowboy scored more than 11 points and the Golden Bears beat the Cowboys 71-61 at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California.

Wyoming men's basketball begins six-game home stretch Wednesday against Denver (trib.com)

"I know Coach Billups, actually we’ve had a few conversations since we’ve both taken over the programs," Edwards said. "And just talking basketball, he’s a guy that wants to get up and down the floor. What I’ve been more impressed with the team is how they’re getting better with each game also. They’re in each game."

"I think (Billups) is going to run his offense and kind of wear you down a little bit. And then, not lull you to sleep, but they’re pretty disciplined in trying to get what they’re actually looking for."

Edwards not concerned with Wyoming's shooting woes (WyoSports.net)

“I was impressed with our fight on the defensive end of the floor,” Edwards said. “If I didn’t look at offensive stats and just the defensive stats, I walk away knowing we had chances to win.

“We didn’t have good nights shooting, but I’m confident in our ability to shoot. I’m not at all concerned. In the Pacific game (a 73-65 loss), it was nothing they did to take away our shots, we just missed. The Cal game (a 71-61 loss) was more physical, but our shots were still there.”

Wyoming beats Pioneers after tough California road trip (WyoSports.net)

“The ribs bother me, but I’ve got to play through it,” Adams said. “My teammates helped put me in the right spots.”

“We played toward the score a little more than playing to what we value,” Edwards said on what parts of the edge his team lost in the second half.

“I felt like we were less assertive and played a little bit more on our heels. I thought we settled for the 3-ball. I told the players there’s more to us than just shooting 3s.

I had 3 broken ribs from football, and broken ribs are not something to take lightly. I'm surprised Adams is back as soon as he is - it's hard to breathe deeply with broken ribs.
