Another underwhelming schedule
I don't think it's that bad. There's one or two non conf home games that could be interesting. + Cal and Missouri or USC. I give it a B

Yeah, it is what it is. We've seen worse but probably not as good as many were hoping. BTW it looks like it is Misouri State we could play in Vegas not Mizzou.

This schedule is actually a lot better than the last 5 years. The only games that aren't at least half way respectable on there are Western St. and Colorado College.

Much rather play teams from the Sunbelt (Troy) ,West Coast Conference (Pacific), Ivy League (Cornell) instead of teams like Stetson and Florida A&M.

Also playing Montana instead of Montana St. and having an NCAA team in South Dakota St. on the schedule makes this a lot better schedule than in the past.

I think this schedule fits nicely with the team we have coming back. Not too easy and gives some challenges and we still have Cal on the schedule along with the tournament.

I'll take it.

I agree with the others in that this is a better schedule for us than the past 5 or so years.

Only problem I have with it....Please Gawd no more RMAC schools on the docket for future schedules.

Agreed, they are totally fine for exhibition games, but not regular season.

I think it's stronger than it's been in quite awhile, of course we'll hardly ever get lucky to get a CAL or any other team to come to Laramie, anymore, but UNI is a good start to see really where we'll be, Pacific is ok. Just heard on the radio it costs about 80k to bring a team in to play this day and age, now maybe if we had a bit better air service in and out of Laramie and a hub, it may be a different story. We are who we are and play whomever is in front of us

Wouldn't scheduling a DII be better than a sub-300 DI like Northern Colorado or Florida A&M? Game will probably end in a similar result and it doesn't hurt your RPI.

That is correct, and that's why I won't complain too bad about having those teams on the schedule. I would rather have a decent team on the schedule but if the only other option is a sub 300rpi team then I would prefer these teams.

I don't know if they affect our SOS or not similar to RPI. And I know that the selection committee has seemed to lessen the importance of RPI the last several years so not sure if this gaming of the RPI will work but I would still rather have these D2 teams on the schedule than the worst teams in D1.

I thought it was cool that Shyatt took the team on the road to play Ohio State, sort of a homecoming for Nance and Bentz. I think it would be neat for us to schedule a game like that in the future for our Florida kids, or maybe UCLA for our southern California kids. It's a chance to make a little money, reward our players who decided to travel a long distance to play in Laramie by letting them play in front of their friends/family, and if we get lucky we can come out with a major, program-enhancing win.

And maybe since Shyatt isn't the coach anymore, CU Boulder won't be scared to schedule us in the future ;)

Correctly me if I am wrong, I thought on 1 game against a DII team was dropped... I thought if there is more than one the subsequent do impact RPI? Am I wrong on this?

I don't know. I don't think so because I don't think the RPI ranks D2 schools(or at least ranks them along with D1 schools) so I don't think there is anyway to include them in the rankings. Not like in football where you only get to count one FCS team towards bowl eligibility.
I could be wrong though. I don't think we should schedule more than one anyway.

The problem with the D2 school is there is zero to be gained by playing them. Nothing. If you win, and win big, you were supposed to. If you win by a little, people wonder why you beat such an inferior team by such a small amount. And if you lose...the sky is falling. I know it was only an exhibition game, but I'm convinced the loss to New Mexico Highlands last year not only got the season off to a horrible start but it had a negative impact on attendance the remainder of the season. I don't care if you're playing with your last five guys on the bench, that's a game you have to win. Otherwise, it's "these guys can't even beat an RMAC school, why should I go see them?"

You are correct. D2 games basically don't exist according to the RPI, so your RPI is only dependent upon D-1 games.

However, the NCAA selection committee (and by extension the NIT selection process which is part of the NCAA nowadays) is cognizant of this loophole and playing D2 games is considered a negative mark on a NCAA tourney selection resume.

Obviously we aren't really in a position to worry about that right now, but it would behoove us to only schedule one D2 team in a year where we anticipate we may challenge for an at-large (14-15 would be the type of team to employ that strategy).

Rebuilding periods like now, we might as well schedule 2.
