We got our heads handed to us today. Hats off to UNI, they play tenacious defense. This kind of game out of Wyoming is what had me worried. They struggled all year to put a complete game together, whcich kills you in the post season. It is really unfortunate because there is a heck of a lot of talent on this team. I may be shot for saying this, but I personally think we are more complete next year, what i saw all year was the team waiting for Nance to make something happen instead kf going through 2nd and 3rd options
I won't shoot you, but I will disagree. I don't say that in a negative way regarding our players for next year, but there are two things that are very difficult to duplicate:
1. Larry Nance, Jr. - Big men are very difficult to recruit and develop at our level. To find a player of his size (6'8", 235), athletic ability (insert dunk reel here), skill set (inside, outside, FT shooting, defense), and demeanor (the only thing more impressive than his on-court abilities is the way he has represented this program off the court). He will be missed greatly. Players like him don't come along anywhere very often, but especially at UW.
2. Experience - Look how much experience there was on both teams today. Neither of these teams were even close to sniffing the NCAA a year ago, but here they are a year later (obviously UNI still going). Did either team bring in a stud recruit to lead them? Nope, just experience. UNI's top 6 scorers are the exact same as a year ago and some of them have been contributors the last 3 years. The Pokes obviously returned 4 starters, 5 of their top 7 and a core group that was together for a full 3 years (all 5 starters were in at least their 3rd year in the program).
Eventually, we can duplicate the experience, but it can't happen in one year. Nance, if history is any indication, will take much longer to duplicate.
Can't say enough good things about this senior class and the effort they put in.
