2015-2016 Schedule

No they didn't make the NCAA because we did. Had we lost any of the tournament games, wed been out and CSU would have taken out spot.
Wasn't it stated that we took Temple's spot?

Yep. We bumped Temple. Some other team bumped the sheep.

I would be curious about the inner workings of bball scheduling. Some thoughts and/or questions...
Are we steadfast with 1 and 1 arrangements?

Do we consider 1 and done arrangement? Personally, I would pursue these if they were against quality opponents. 1 or 2 per season wouldn't be a big deal. I get that some teams may not want to come to Laramie.

Does our style of play impact scheduling?

What limits our scheduling of better teams?

Really, though, changing a few games is all that is required. If we drop a few of the RPI killers and added a "dragon" or two (even if it is a road game), I'd be happy.

1. Most mid to lower tier major programs strive for a one and one. Especially if it is good to quality opponents from an upper conference. Scheduling a major opponent is hard, they have almost "EVERYBODY" trying to schedule them, and they also play against each other in OOC tourneys. So open slots in their schedules are limited.

2. Style of play does create a scheduling issue. Just in listening to KU's coach Self on the radio, he's said that he only wants to schedule opponents that are reminiscent of conference opponents to better prepare his team for conference play. I assume that a lot of major programs are the same.

3. Each of the above comments will limit our chances at getting better teams on our schedule, also payout costs for games come into the mix, travel and so forth. It's been said, that none of the big programs want to come to Laramie, and this is true. But even other schools struggle with this. Wichita St., Creighton, Butler, VCU even Gonzaga rarely get equal to top quality opponents to come to their gym, which is why they play in top OOC tourneys, where they can get their chance against those opponents, sometimes they will even go to the other top opponents venues, but not often. WYO is not "there" yet. We are not at a place where we can be mentioned with those programs, we're still growing. And with that comes a different style of scheduling. We are at a place where WYO is considered a danger on a top programs schedule. We are not a shoe-in win, and could easily pull an upset.

This leaves us with getting the best of the rest. Up and coming top conference opponents (Cal, SMU, Colorado), Top in a small conference opponents ( NMSU, Southern), Regional opponents (UNCO, Denver, Mont St.)
Freebie opponents (Regis, Western St.), and then a couple of open slots, which are open till filled, this is where I'm sure coach Shy tries to get some big games, but if we have no takers, then he has to fill it with whatever is left kind of a (Stetson and FAMU type teams, I'm not saying that's what they were this year).

Scheduling at WYO is hard. We're in the middle of the pack where we are easily overlooked, or some know of us, know what we're capable of and don't want to schedule us. If we continue our success to the point of making NCAA tourney runs years after year, then we will be where Wichita St, Butler, Gonzaga and VCU are now. Till then, we need to schedule the best we can and just WIN!

this MWC/MVC challenge is a good thing, maybe in a few years we can play Wichita St. although they might be down, i like the MVC, strong and mirrors the MWC

FWIW, the MWC/MVC challenge for next season has been formally announced: http://www.themw.com/news/mwmvc-challenge-2015

One MWC team had to be left out since we have 11 and they have 10. For everyone's sake, SJSU was left out.

A quick look at the matchups:

1. Ill. St @ SDSU - Ill. St isn't bad, they were in the NIT this year and should be a Top 100 team, but this challenge would be a lot more fun if SDSU was matched up with WSU or UNI.

2. AFA @ Southern Ill - Winnable game for AFA. Hinson has strugged in Carbondale

3. CSU @ UNI - CSU losing is always fun.

4. WYO @ Indiana St. - Good game here. I think the Sycamores will be the 3rd best team in the MVC next year behind UNI and WSU.

5. Loyola @ UNM - Another good game. Loyola is on their way up under Porter Moser (they just won the CBI for what little that is worth), but UNM should win in the Pit.

6. USU @ Missouri St. - Would have liked to have seen USU get a better matchup. They should win this easily.

7. UNLV @ WSU - Dave Rice brings his merry band of NBA prospects from the bright lights of Vegas to the..well, nothing of Wichita to get their asses handed to them by Gregg Marshall's bunch.

8. Drake @ Nevada - Toss-up. Hard to know what we will see from Nevada next year. Drake isn't very good.

9. Bradley@ Boise St - WTF? Who is in charge of this shit anyway? Bradley is going to be an epic clusterfuck of a team next year (new coach, have the roster just transferred out but they were terrible anyway, etc.). A top 2 preseason MWC team needs a better matchup than this.

10. Evansville @ Fresno State - Should be a good matchup between a couple of mid-pack teams. That's the theory. Reality is that Fresno doesn't bother trying until conference play, so this could be a home loss.

Overall, I would expect it will be pretty even, maybe 5-5 or 6-4 in favor of the MWC.

Reading the first few lines I found myself BEGGING the gods to let CSU play at UNI and low and behold... I was rewarded. This is fantastic. They are going to get thumped something fierce. Thank you for this. It made my day.

Is UNI even going to be good without that tuttle dude?

IMO, I think they are just fine without him. That Harpun guy or whatever his name is seems legit.

Some info on Bristol University (Bears).

Not even NAIA. My guess: this USCAA is a level below the NAIA but is half a step above Junior Colleges.

The school belongs to a conference called the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference which is what the PAC-XX was originally know back before Pearl Harbor become famous for the wrong reasons.

I wonder if Marcia Brady made their cheer squad this year!

I was quite happy to see this.

It's a step in the right direction and will help the conference and everyone in it glad it's going again. Some of the match ups are questionable from this years performance but it's a great start.

Interesting how San Jose State isn't going to be a part of the MW/MVC Challenge.
Well, until they get more than 7 players, no longer on probation, and the MVC gets another team (they sit at 10 right now)... Yeah.

Though I do feel kind of bad for their coach and players. They get basically zero support from the students and community.

The MW never should've given San Jose State an invite!!!!

UNLV may have the talent, but they do NOT have the coaching.

I agree with coaching, but, we also have to remember with as talented as the players are, they were also quite young this last year, and I think their all coming back. They may be a force in the next few years. Remember, they may have been down last year, but they still beat Arizona.

Nope. Wood and Vaughn are both gone to the NBA. That's another thing, they have a very high turnover rate.
