2014 Wyoming Depth Chart (Entering Fall Camp)

No way is Chase Appleby 260lbs, especially at Nose Tackle. Patrick Mertens also seems a bit small at 285lbs at DT, despite how big he looks on film.

Anyone notice that both starters on the left side of the O-Line are only sophomores?

Also, I only see two defensive starters that are not seniors.

Liking the overall size of the RB corps. We're getting there. Let's hope the O-line can do some work upfront this year.

I think they misprinted Appleby's weight AGAIN. They did that in the spring too.

Get your shit together, fuckin' intern.

By my count, only five true freshmen on the depth chart going into camp.

Could be wrong, but 4 of the 5 are walk-ons I believe, and Bettencourt was an early enrollment (played spring ball 2014) and the O line is the thinnest / weakest area.

Just like I thought, 2 preseason top 10 teams.

Just come out of those healthy guys!

I'd rather have both teams say....damn, I'm glad we don't have to play Wyoming again. They were physical.

I know, but I'm also realistic.

Definitely not much depth on this team. Avoiding injuries, particularly in the trenches, will be crucial.

There is no "OR" for the QBs, so I guess that is the pecking order right now. 1. Kirkegaard 2. Thorton 3. Stratton 4. Young. Starters are typically named no later than 2 weeks into camp. Not a lot of time for a freshman to make an impact.

It is absolutely crucial that Wyoming sweep Montana, Air Force, and Florida Atlantic early on. Dropping any of those games could result in a really rough open to the Bohl era.

That is interesting. I think the defense is going to be really good. Like, surprisingly good.
DC got the talent here, and it is apparent by the amount of defensive players we have in the NFL from the DC era (Purcell, Jones, Huff, etc.) but now they have real coaching, and a hard core strength and conditioning coach. That with the fact our offense is going to take their time with the ball, leaving the defense on the bench to rest is going to be great.
Look at it this way, when our offense was clicking, Brett would lead us on 2 minute TD drives. Now, when our offense ISN'T clicking they will have the ball for at least two minutes.

Or it could just as easily be the "Joe Glenn" experience where the O completely stalls with multiple 3 and outs in two minutes and our D is right back out there on the field.
With this being a first year offense with spread players it would seem this is more likely to happen.

I don't know....we have some guys that are more suited for Pro Style O and adapted to Spread.

Gentry and Rufran aren't blazing fast, but they catch and block great
Wick and May are going to succeed in Pro Style O

The O line will take some adaptation for sure. I think Our O line is the key part of whether we suck bad, or just suck this year.

I'm really curious about the D as like the previous post......they appear to have talent but more of a development issue.

Exactly, you can't have a running game (no matter how good your RBs) with a weak O line. And no matter how good your WRs, if your QB is sketchy? Which is where we are now, and where we were in Glenn's last year. A bunch of QBs who were not accurate and threw INTs all overs. And a running game which was decent but couldn't gain ground when it mattered. I just keep getting this sneaking suspicion that we are going to look a lot like that 2008 team.
