2010 Recruiting

It appears that Coach Christensen wasn't lying when he said he would only recruit players who could beat BYU, Utah, and TCU. The Pokes have been in contact with some big names in the 2010 class. They especially seem to be not backing away from the top recruits in Colorado. Dillon Bonnell, a highly touted offensive lineman out of Colorado, has been offered by the Pokes. The kid holds 8 scholarship offers right now and the Pokes are the only non-BCS school to go after this kid. He has been offered by the likes of Cal, Oregon State, Arizona State, and Kentucky. He has the talent to start at the left tackle postion as a redshirt freshman for most teams in this nation. In addition to Bonnell, the Pokes also made an aggressive pitch to land Danny Spond, a QB/Athlete out of Colorado. He was given 4-stars by rivals and was one of the most dynamic players in Colorado high school history. He ultimately ended up verballing to Colorado, but I like the fact that we went after this guy. I think Glenn's staff would have considered a player of his caliber "out of Wyoming's league". Coach Christensen has recently started pursuing Desmond Martin, a defensive back out of Texas. ESPN has him on their ESPN-U 150 Watch List, meaning they think he very well may be one of the top 150 football players in the nation. Another big name worth mentioning is Dallas Lloyd, a highly sought after QB out of Utah. He has been given a rating of 4-stars by scout and holds 8 scholarship offers, including one from the Pokes. BYU and Utah have offered him, as well as Nebraska and Stanford. Historically, we have barely recruited Utah and basically conceeded all of the good players to BYU and Utah. Glad to see we are trying to make some in-roads into Utah for recruiting purposes. We already have on verbal commitment who is a very, very good football player. Sonny Puletasi is as good a football player as any of the players signed in the 2009 class. I absolutely LOVE this appraoch by Christensen. If you want to be a big time program, you have to go after big time recruits. It will be interesting to see if we can land any big names, but you have to ask in order to have a chance.

Nice info. Good stuff. I don't think Glenn & his recruiting coordinator rocket scientist guy, ever really recruited completely to the D1 level. Some of the players, sure, but for the most part, they were recruiting like they were at UNC or Montana.
