Jason Gesser will coach QB's and Jamar Cain will coach DL
Well, Brett Smith is a damn good QB, but his backups need to be brought up to speed. Thompson has a cannon for an arm, but has issues with accuracy and short throws. Kirkegaard is about the opposite. Good accuracy, but a noodle of an arm. And where Thompson is overly aggressive (acted like a bull when running the ball last year), Kirkegaard can be too timid.djm19 said:Cain may be good recruiting the polys.
I actually like the Gesser hire. Idaho blows, but he did a prety good job as OC and interim coach given his situation.
I find it odd we are hiring alll these people we played against the past year.

For D-line, we've had issues since Fletcher, Givens, and Unrein graduated. Last year, Cal Poly and Air Force, both who run the triple option, an offense that we see every year, both ran us the fuck over. And it all begins up front.

I was hoping Brandon would replace DC. Hopefully Brandon was fully in support of the QB's coaching hire, but it sure doesn't sound like it.

Yep, it seemed clear to me Brandon wasn't happy with DC. This sucks! I'm sure there will be those DC supporters that say Brandon's departure doesnt matter, but they are wrong. As I said months ago, I wish we would have fired DC when we had the chance.

TSpoke said:I think the pick up of Jason Gesser is a huge get for us. I remember lots of really great things said of him when he took over the HC duties at Idaho about how smart of a coach he was and that he was a up and coming coach. As far as Brandon not being happy? who knows? I'm sure he had input especially since Gesser has been RB coach before and I'm sure could have worked there again. I imagine this is a way to get to good coaches working with the qb since Brandon is still the OC he will have plenty of interaction with Smith et al. I always thought it was a good idea to have a seperate QB coach from the OC as another voice for the QB to talk to.
We now have another coach on staff with head coaching experience(although limited). Including gesser we now have 5 i beleive. Pretty amazing. DC, Brandon, Tormey, Ross(i think), Gesser.
Now if Brandon got a better job(another head gig or higher profile oc position) we have a coach that could step into the OC job without much interuption.

I'm not a DC hater, I'm a UW supporter. I dont think DC or Burman is putting the long term interests of the program above their short term job security issues. While an instinct for self preservation is understandable, theirs comes at the long term cost to UW .

I'm not sure I understand how DC hasn't taken a long view of the health of this program. He has recruited primarily High School players and redshirted a lot of them. If he was looking solely after his own short-term self interest he would have done an Erickson, recruiting Jucos heavily and redshirting no one in order to win a couple more games a year early and snag his next job.

I agree. To me he is looking out for the future. With the exception of QBs. Which makes sense to me because QBs are the most important on the field.
