Laramie, Wyo. (Dec. 2, 2008) -- University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman and University of Nebraska Athletics Director Tom Osborne announced jointly on Tuesday that the Wyoming Cowboys and Nebraska Huskers have signed a contract for a three-game football series to begin in Laramie, Wyo., on Sept. 24, 2011. The second and third games in the series are to be played in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 31, 2013, and Sept. 17, 2016.

Nebraska’s trip to Wyoming in 2011 will be the first appearance ever by the Huskers in Laramie.

“It is exciting to play a program with the tradition of Nebraska, while at the same time renewing a regional series against an old rival,” said Burman. “I believe this is the kind of series our fans want us to play, and to be able to bring Nebraska to Laramie for the first time in history will be a special game for Cowboy fans.

“I want to thank Tom Osborne and Bo Pelini (Nebraska head football coach) for working with us to make this series a reality.”

The Cowboys and Huskers have not played each other since 1994 when Wyoming battled Nebraska in Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium before falling by a score of 32-42. The Huskers went on to win the 1994 National Championship. The Cowboys led by then head coach Joe Tiller and future All-America wide receiver Marcus Harris scored more points against NU than any other opponent in 1994.

Wyoming and Nebraska have played each other a total of five previous times -- all in Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska won each of those previous five meetings in 1934, 1968, 1983, 1984 and 1994.

In addition to the announcement of the Nebraska series, Wyoming also announced new series versus the University of Idaho, of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), and Southern Utah, a Football Championship Series (formerly NCAA I-AA) program.

Wyoming’s series versus Idaho will be a two-game contract starting on Sept. 22, 2012, in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals will return to Laramie on Sept. 7, 2013.

Southern Utah and the Cowboys will play a single game in Wyoming’s War Memorial Stadium on Sept. 4, 2010.

“We are also pleased to sign deals with two other quality regional opponents in Idaho and Southern Utah,” said Burman.

GWG had the scoop.

I like the recent scheduling of more BCS schools, and getting them to come to Laramie. Maybe we can get CU to come up sometime, wouldn't mind seeing us play a couple teams from the Big-10 sometime too. Once we get the ship righted it will be good exposure to play with the "household" name teams.

I like the idea of starting a 2-for-1s in Laramie with the big boys.

Just my $0.02 (which aint worth shit!), the ONLY non-BCS school I want to see in Laramie is Hawaii. THAT'S IT!

Unreal. I never thought i'd live to see the day when the huskers agreed to come to Laramie. I still wont beleive it until I actually see it. Boy, those tickets will go like hotcakes!! There are sooo many Neb fans around here its ridiculous. Plus you have a lot of fans in the panhandle, and Laramie is closer than Lincoln for them. There could literally be more red in the War then gold.

They are just lucky they were too scared to play us in Laramie during their 94 Natl Title season. We were their closest game all year, and you guessed it, a turnover did us in on a fumble punt return - sorry to bring it up JeNey. Seriously, we were about to get the ball very deep in our own side of the field but only down 3 with time to take the lead. WOW, remember when we could hang with the National Title teams?

This is sweet. I grew up a Husker fan and a Cowboys fan, but don't cheer for the Fuskers much any more. Their fans are probably the most arrogant fans in the country. I especially can't stand the Western Nubb folks that attend UW but walk around with NU gear on all the time.

Our fans need to step up and purchase every ticket that isn't allotted to Husker fans, and don't sell them for the money either. There will be a huge influx of Nubb fans from the Front Range and Western Neb. They will try to take over the stadium just like they did at Notre Dame. I know I will have season tickets and will purchase as many extras as possible.

Hopefully HCDC make them leave Laramie a loser, just like he did in Lincoln this year.

Don't forget Nebraska went into the victory formation for several plays with first and goal to go on our 3 or 4 yard line. They easily could have tacked on another 7 but Osborne had too much class even though the score hurt them at the time. Whittingham would have taken the 7 and on-side kicked the ball.

I forgot about that and your probably right about Whitlessham, but the game was still in doubt very late. I did root for NE the rest of the year, I liked how they just ran over everybody especially Florida. Gators carried off the field every 10 minutes, Tommy Frazier breaking all sorts of tackles, loved watching them in their heyday. Pokes were 1, Huskers 1A. Now it is Pokes 1.
