Crap like this happens in Football

1998 an 8-3 Wyo team barely Beat Montana State 17 - 9

waiting until at least two games before I get all wound up about the D but they sure need to shore up the run D off the tackles and find a better pass rush.

Still see a possibility of a 6 win season. It really showed that we played 11 freshman last night

Well we do pay the coaching staff _alot_ of money for a reason. It is to figure out a solution to problems like this. 6 more days and we know twice as much about this team than we know right now.

I hope they figure out how to wrap them up this week - the hit and run is causing too many missed tackles.

Go Pokes!

This weeks game will be telling. If they make progress and beat TSU with a good cushion (14-20 points), this will be your routine rebuilding season that you'd expect from a young team. If they barely beat them like they did WSU, or heaven forbid, lose to them, that's when the danger of 3-9 arises.

1990 we went 9-4 under Roach, We played 1-AA Arkansas St and won 34-27. And if I remember right we were losing in that one also.
1996 Wyo goes 10-2, First game we play 1-AA Idaho and barely win 40-38. No one complains about that team!
TheMan would love this one, 2003 Joe Glenn's first year Wyo beats Mont St 21-10. joe Glenn plays Noth Dakota St and we win 16-13.
I don't understand why everyone is complaining about how bad DC is playing against these FCS teams, when honestly the only blowouts I've found against FCS school have been 2 in the last 20 years. App St. when they sucked 53-7, and Weber St when they sucked 41-16. All the other were tough match ups.

I accidently entered when i wasn't finished. These games apparently don't tell what kind of season you'll have here in Laramie. If you look at these past scores, 1990 would seem that we would have played pretty crappy after the Ark St. game. 1993 and definitely 1996. I mean 38 points to idaho and we had to win the game on a last second field goal. I was at that one I remember. All those season were good, All those games we played like crap.
So, why does barely beating Weber the other day prove we suck?

I am up here in Seattle, Washington in Pac 10 country and I get to hear all about the Washington Huskies all day long on sports radio and they are obviously not happy with the game they had With E. Washington but they are also trying to be realistic about it and realize they are the defending fcs national champs and they are saying that E. Washington will not be the worst team they play this year which is true.

So, honestly will Weber St. be the worst team we play this year? I doubt it. They actually have one of the best offensive lines in FCS and it is probably better than a few of the offensive lines we will play this year. Having said that , it is not really the fact that the game was close that worries me , it is more the fact that our defense gave up 540 yards of offense and it sounds like our guys were out of position on a lot of plays. I want to be optimistic and hope it gets better but the one thing that keeps popping up in my mind is that the defenses from the last couple of years and this years defense all have one thing in common and that is English is the defensive coordinator. That is what is worrying me.

Hopefully it all gets corrected before the Bowling Green game or we will get beat there. Actually, i'm hopeful it gets corrected by this weekend or who knows we might get beat in this game this weekend. Even though I am hopeful I am thinking it probably won't happen because of the (common denominator).

Idaho was a crappy team. But in 1996 they had just moved back into Division 1-A (Now known as FBS)

I thought they moved to 1-A in 97? Either way, they sucked! And we almost blew it against them.

Interesting comparison being made here, but this is 2011 in a conference that, last year, featured two of the best defenses in the nation. If we are fundamentally unable to compete for, or coach to, talent on the level of Boise State and TCU, we may as well be ready for the WAC or worse if another realignment earthquake hits.

English has done only so-so as a linebackers coach, and as a DC, his numbers are simply bad. Everyone remembers the NM Bowl goal line stand and credits him (rightly or wrongly) with it. Fact is, UW has ranked at the bottom of the BCS in total defense for over five years now, and we saw nothing different on Saturday. Personnel out of position and a scheme package that a four-year-old could count. Wyoming needs a creative, modern defensive coach with recruiting resources that the players will learn from and respect.

Way too much has been invested in facilities and upgrades to see the possibility of a running, increasing count of empty seats at the top of the east stands. If UW gets left behind in any kind of realignment, that will be the net result.

The Wyoming legislature invested in the UW Athletic Dept. facilities only because of the matching funds agreement. We can thank the donors for the great facilities we have. Shame on the Wyoming legislature for not funding the UW Athletic Dept. to the mid-level of the MWC. We have mostly an apathetic legislature and maybe even some with ties to a certain church school that would like to see UW athletics fail.
